She caught the plate and chuckled while they watched Cassie add potato salad to her plate. She was almost out of room.

She said to Raven, “I have been eating more the last few days, but I eat normal most of the time! Well, kind of. Like grown man size portions.”

They all looked at her with smiles, even Marilyn. Cassie smirked at her as she waived her macaroni covered spoon, “Girl, please. I haven’t eaten regular portion sizes since I was 13. Thank the Goddess for werewolf metabolism or I would be as big as a house!”

“When I was a teenager, I got really worried about how much I ate, but my mom always told me not to bother. She said I had good genes. But when you’re 16, girls always worry about being thin enough, so I started working out. All it did was give me muscle.” They all laughed as they finished filling their plates.

It was a good feeling, and perhaps exactly what the doctor would prescribe. She figured they could all use a little more fun and joy.

Talking about her mom, even a little was hard, but it felt right too. She was still so mad and hurt, but she wanted to be able to remember her without being angry. She knew it would take time but standing there laughing was a good start.

They were almost finished eating when Brianna and Darren came into the kitchen. Darren immediately grabbed a hamburger.

Brianna scooted right up to Cassie, “Hey little sister. What are you ladies up to?”

Cassie looked anywhere but at Brianna as she said, “Nothing. Just eating.”

“Uh huh. And when you’re done eating?” Brianna asked. She had a mischievous smile on her face, like she already knew they had plans.

Darren spoke around a huge mouthful of hamburger, “Give it up baby girl. We ran into Marshall. He already told us you’re having a girl’s night and we are crashing.”

Raven cleared her throat, “Um… You’re a boy Darren. No boys allowed.”

Darren scoffed at her, mouth open, giving them a disgusting view of his chewed-up food. The resemblance between him and his sister was really starting to show, “Excuse me. I am perfectly feminine enough to join this girl group! I wear more pink than all of you combined!”

They all laughed, but Raven still didn’t give in, “Still. Pink or not, you have male parts. This is a no penis kind of night.”

Kenzie was taking a drink of her water when she spoke, and in her effort to not spray water on everyone when she laughed, she snorted shooting water up her nose. Immediately she started choaking and spluttering, getting that horrible feeling like when you accidentally breathe under water.

Sorcha started patting her back as everyone laughed even harder at her predicament.

Sorcha, being the sweetheart she was, handed her a napkin. “Are you okay?”

Kenzie nodded while she continued to cough. Finally, she was able to breath normally, “Thank you, I’m good.”

She looked up to see everyone watching her, apparently waiting for her to catch her breath. Seeing that she was not going to die, Darren looked back at Raven and said, “What if I tuck it and wear a skirt?”

Raven’s face turned surprised, and they all started laughing again. Raven nodded, “Yea okay, I would totally pay to see that. If you do it, you can hang out with us!”

Darren started hopping up and down on his toes, “You’re on. I’ll be back.” He started to walk away but turned back, “Where are we gathering for this night of fun?”

Cassie pointed at Kenzie, “Her room. It’s the biggest.”

“Wait… Is everyone okay with cats?” She looked around the room to see everyone either shrug or nod, “Okay cool. Then yep, my room is good.”

Darren rushed off and Brianna started making herself a plate as the rest of them finished up. After Kenzie disposed of her trash she turned to Cassie, “So what’s next on the itinerary?”

Cassie lifted her chip bag and tipped the last of the contents into her mouth. After she finished chewing, she said, “What’s your favorite color?”

“Um… Purple. Why?” She wasn’t sure what that had to do with girls’ night.

“Sorcha wants to add some color to her hair, like Raven’s. She needs a change. So, we are going to run to Sally’s beauty shop and pick up some hair dye. I’m going to add red to mine. We can do yours too if you want?” She looked so excited.

Honestly, a change sounded like fun.

Raven started clapping and hopping up and down, “Oh I need a color change too! We should all do something!”

Brianna raised her hand, “I’m in. But I want green!”
