Raven stood up from where she was leaning against the fence, “Sabine, you already know they can use their spirit magic just fine.”

The witch grinned. It was not a happy grin as her eyes danced with malice, “I don’t believe I’ve seen enough.”

Kenzie felt a light probe in her mind, like someone was trying to get passed her walls, “Hey! That’s rude. Stay out of my head.”

Marshall stepped up to his sister’s side protectively, “Stop it Sabine. You have no right to invade her privacy like that.”

Sabine hissed at them, “According to the prophecy, you have mixed blood. Whether that is reliable or not, obviously you have magic, which means you are part witch. And that means you are partially under our command. Therefore, I have every right.” Sabines’ eyes glimmered with glee as she stepped closer to Kenzie, “Let’s see what you’re hiding.”

Marshall stepped between Kenzie and the witch, “Every single werewolf in existence has a drop of witch’s blood, seeing as we were created by a witch’s blood magic. That means nothing. We assume that Kenzie and I have magic because it was deemed so by the Goddess. But we are werewolves and that means you have no power over us.”

Sabine hissed out another angry breath, “Why would she bless you with magic? You are no one. Inconsequential specs in existence. You do not deserve to have power.”

Marshall growled deep enough to have the hairs raising on her arms, “Perhaps you’re right. To you we are no one. But you are no one to us, council or not, you have no say here. And I believe you have overstayed your welcome. Please inform the vampires as well. It is time for you to go. If we find any further information, we will inform William and Corine, who can then relay the information to you. Until then, I want you off my lands.”

Sabine looked outraged. Suddenly golden lights started twirling in her irises, the same gold flecks that Raven’s eyes had, like stars. But on Sabine, it looked threatening, not beautiful.

Sabine raised her arm like she was going to throw something, but before she could draw any power, Nikolai was there. A moment ago, he had been forty feet away on the far side of the training ring. Kenzie blinked and he was right beside Sabine, grabbing her arm and spinning her to face him.

“Sabine, control yourself.” The vampire snapped his command, showing a quick flash of his fangs. It reminded her of her nightmare, and she looked away.

After another moment, Sabine stood straight and yanked her arm out of Nikolai’s hand. Then without another glance in their direction, she stomped off toward the house.

Nikolai tipped his head toward them in an old-world gesture, “My apologies. We are all a bit on edge right now. We heard your request for us to leave and we will oblige you. But I trust you will keep us informed of all progress?”

Marshall nodded, “Of course.”

“Alright, then we will leave within the hour. I will wish the others farewell on your behalf, as I believe you have other matters to attend to now.” Nikolai turned to leave.

“Thank you, Nikolai.” With a nod of acknowledgement, Nikolai followed Sabine.

Raven sighed, “Holy shit, that was almost bad.”

Kenzie snorted out a laugh, “That’s an understatement.” She turned to Marshall, “I didn’t know you could order them to leave like that.”

He shrugged, “Technically I can because it’s my pack lands. Since we have not committed any crimes there is no reason for them to be here. Their authority is very limited over factions that are not their own.”

“Good.” Kenzie sighed, “I’m exhausted.”

Marshall chuckled, “Yea, me too. Surprisingly, Sabine was helpful. Bossy, but helpful.”

Raven rolled her eyes, “She did exactly what I told her I planned to do so don’t give her too much credit. I think she only stepped in to help so she could try out that last bit. She is an Earth witch, but she is also extraordinarily strong in Spirit. It is how she made the council so young. She’s younger than I am.”

“Well, that’s just great. So, she probably would have rolled right over my walls. Thanks for protecting me, both of you.”

Marshall gave her a quick one arm hug, “That’s what big brothers are for.”

Raven chuckled, “And friends.”

Finally able to relax, Marshall and Kenzie collapsed onto the ground next to each other. Raven handed them each a bottle of water.

Kenzie chugged the entire bottle as she noticed Chris walking toward them.

“Hey Dad. If you want me to do anymore work today, I’m gonna need a minute.” Marshall flopped back onto the ground and closed his eyes as if he were going to take a nap right there on the grass.

Chris smiled, “Luckily, I don’t have anything to add to your workload today. I was actually going to see if you still planned on testing the distance of your magic?”

“Yes.” Raven answered, “We need to know, so I was planning on sending Kenzie and Aiden off for a drive and keeping Marshall here. Why, what’s up?”
