“I have no idea,” she giggled, wiping her eyes. “Now, are you going to open the rest of your present?”

“There’s more?”

“Keep going,” she urged.

“If there’s another sonogram…ohhh Lily,” John breathed as he held up the tiny article of clothing that lay hidden under the remaining tissue paper in the box. She’d seen it and knew it was utterly perfect for them.

The look on John’s face was priceless. He had become emotional with the photo of the sonogram that revealed her pregnancy - but seeing the embroidered baby outfit was his undoing. The outfit said simply “Daddy’s little Twinkie” on a bright, lemony yellow cotton sleeper.

He immediately pulled her into his arms, hugging her for several minutes while she held his beloved head against her neck. His silent tears of unspeakable joy mingled with tender kisses, as if he couldn’t get enough of her.

“Is now a bad time for me to interrupt? I brought your coffee,” a woman’s voice said sweetly. Lily saw John’s mother was wiping her eyes carefully while trying not to spill the hot coffee. John got to his feet, grinning, and wiping his own eyes.

“Lily is pregnant,” he announced excitedly.

“I guessed.”

“I certainly didn’t!”

“I was trying to keep it a surprise for you,” Lily admitted, getting to her feet. “I was just getting ready to show John the crib. I thought we could put it together and start preparing this room for our little Twinkie.”

“Awww what an adorable nickname.”

“He -or she- was blessed with a very sweet daddy,” Lily said tenderly, walking over to John and kissing him lightly before resting his hand on her lower abdomen knowingly. His smile was her undoing – this man was everything to her and their child would be an expression of their love that would only grow.

“Merry Christmas, my love.”
