Not a lot of words were exchanged between us after our just concluded escapade. I saw him to the door before cleaning up and going to bed with a big, satisfied smile on my face. I refused to think of what the sex we just had meant and, instead, decided to enjoy the good feeling it brought me.

I could barely contain the smile on my face during the drive home. Ramon kept looking at me through the rear-view mirror. He was clearly itching to ask me what the good news is but he also probably considered that it could be something as personal as sex, which it was.
I got home, showered and went to bed with a sweet feeling in the pit of my stomach. All the worries in the world could wait, I loved how I felt. The ray of sun from the little crack in my curtain was directly on my eyes when I woke up. I shut my eyes and turned before reopening them.
The first thing on my mind was the thought of asking Valentina out on a date. I wasn’t sure how she’d react since we’d not spoken about last night but I was done sitting down and doing nothing about this growing attraction between us.
The shower I had felt extra refreshing and my coffee tasted so good. The day was going perfectly. Ramon seemed to be in a good mood too as we drove to the office because he sang along to the music on the radio.
“What has got you so happy?” I asked.
“It’s my birthday today,” he responded.
“Oh Ramon! Happy Birthday, man. You never told me, why is that?”
“I don’t usually do anything for my birthday but this woman I’m seeing…” he paused with an excited smile on his face. “She has me all excited, says she’s planning something.”
“You’re seeing a new woman huh?” I asked.
“Yes, I am.”
“Is she someone I know?” I asked, trying to take an interest in Ramon’s life.
“I don’t think so. She works for Mr. Antonio as a member of his security detail. I met her at the tech launch you attended a few months back.” He looked happy through the mirror. It was the same event I saw Valentina at after 3 years.
“I’m happy for you Ramon. You deserve to be happy. I’ll send you a little something to add to the surprise the lady has for you. In fact, I’ll get another driver to work for today. You have the rest of the day off.”
I saw his surprised expression through the mirror. “Thank you so much sir. I really appreciate this.”
“It’s nothing. Enjoy your day.”
We arrived at the office building a few minutes later and I went into my office to get started on a meeting. I planned to call Valentina after my meeting and ask her out on a date, but just as I was about to dial her number, another call from an unsaved number started coming in; I answered in a formal tone.
“Hello, Leon Pierce speaking.”
