She shook her head slowly, her eyes never leaving his. Either he was losing his mind with lust, or her eyes were hooded with desire. It scented the air with a sweetness that had nothing to do with sugar.

It was all her. Amelia. His mate. The only woman he would ever be able to love.

“I think I have all the clothes and toiletries I need for the next little while. Do you need to do any shopping?”

He shook his head slowly. There wasn’t much left in his brain to think. All of his attention was laser-focused on their touching hands.

“Amelia…” he whispered, leaning closer to her.

“Yes?”

He licked his lips. He shouldn’t say another thing. He should drop her hand and back away. Maybe he needed to find a place to shift and go for a run. He definitely shouldn’t ask her what he desperately wanted to.

“Wilder?” The sound of his name so gently spoken by his lovely mate stopped his heart. He couldn’t breathe or do anything but lean even closer to her until he pressed his mouth to hers.

Her lips parted in a gasp of surprise, but she edged closer, moving her lips against his.

Wilder lost all sense of control. He pushed the table aside and pulled Amelia to her feet, crushing her into his arms.

She came willingly, allowing him to deepen the kiss as his tongue twirled in her mouth. “Amelia,” he growled, pressing his forehead to hers. “Shit, Amelia. I am so sorry.”

“Don’t be,” she murmured back. “That was my first kiss, and as it goes, it was pretty incredible.”

Wilder paused. His entire body went cold, and he stepped away from her. Horror pulsed inside him as he regarded his mate. “What?” he asked. “What do you mean? Your first kiss? Since you got married?”

She shook her head. “My first kiss ever. I never really liked dating as a teen, and the next thing I knew, I was married to Greg.”

“That was your first kiss?” he croaked, the bottom of his stomach dropped. He was horrified.

She nodded. Wilder would have gladly punched himself in the nuts for taking such liberties, but then she licked her lips and bit down on the lower one, looking up at him through her lashes. “Sorry if it was bad.”

“Bad?” His knees shook. He pressed a finger to her chin and lifted her head so he could look deeply into her eyes. “Bad? No. That was the best kiss of my life. I’m just sorry I took your first like that. Without even asking you if it was okay.”

She smiled up at him. “I’m happy it was my first. It was really passionate. I didn’t think I would ever feel that kind of thing. I thought…” She inhaled and shrugged. “I never thought I would get the chance. Especially not with a man like you.”

“A man like me?”

“Have you seen yourself? You’re hot, Wilder. Ridiculously hot. It’s one of the reasons I couldn’t believe you’re single. You’re kind and sweet. You’re even funny in your own way, and when you look at me like that, I can forget the last five years ever happened.”

“No one has ever called me sweet or kind before,” he retorted with a dry snort.

“Then people don’t know you. They don’t know the real you. We’ve only known each other a few hours, but…” She nodded as her smile widened. “You’re a sweetheart.”

Wilder wanted to explain. He longed to tell her that it was only because of who she was to him. Of what they could be together. He couldn’t be this version of himself with anyone else. Only with her.

“Amelia,” he said instead. “I shouldn’t have kissed you. Your moments, your firsts, they should be with a man you love.”

Amelia stood on the tips of her toes and pressed her hand to his cheek. “Don’t tell me you regret it. I never will.”

Before he knew what she was about, Amelia was pressing her mouth to his. He stilled and contemplated pushing her away for all of one second. But if holding her hand made his spine tingle, her mouth on his made his blood heat. All of his instincts told him to make her his right then and there.

He gripped her by the waist and held her firmly to him as he kissed her deeply. Their tongues twirled and explored. Her hands locked in his hair while he took liberties. He dipped his palms lower until he could grip the firm globes of her ass. He massaged them, each knead bringing her closer to him until she was pressed against his erection.

Amelia moaned into his mouth, and he knew he needed to stop.

This was everything he wanted, but it couldn’t be what Amelia wanted. He was pressuring her into it, no matter what she said. She was only just free, and he couldn’t expect this kiss to mean the same to her as it did to him.

Reluctantly, he pulled away from her.
