One of the other girls groaned. “The essentials of her life for the past week.”

I walked over to her and leaned over her, peering into the refrigerator to confirm. “Damn. Not even a slice of bread.” Her flowery perfume was replaced by the scent of her. It filled my nose and made me want to ask if I could feast on her instead. I looked over my shoulder at her staring friends and offered, “I can order breakfast.”

One of the other two snapped their fingers and shouted, “A man with solutions. Gotta love that.”

I was only worried about Gigi’s response though. Since being in her space, she avoided looking at me. Her back was against my chest and her eyes focused on the empty shelves of the refrigerator. I leaned into her ear and asked, “Does that work for you?”

I could have been tripping, but it sounded like I heard a small whimper before she responded.

“Yes, that works for me.” She cleared her throat. “There’s a spot nearby that delivers.” She tried to turn and came face to face with me. “Hi,” she whispered.

“Hi.” I stared into her eyes until her smile widened. So fucking gorgeous.I clutched my fist closed and slid to the side. I didn’t need to do something her friends would have to scrub from their memories.

“Damn,” one of them whispered. “That shit is hot.”

Gigi ignored the comment, and so did I. “Okay,” she announced, “pancakes, bacon, eggs, juice?” She held her phone to her face.

“Works for me,” I told her leaning against the counter beside her. “I can shoot you the cash, tell me the total.”

But she rolled her eyes before one of the other two interjected, “The man said tell him the total.”

I watched them go back and forth before Gigi finally looked at me and said, “It’s seventy-five.”

“I got you.” My eyes stayed on hers before she shifted uncomfortably. “Did y’all have a good time last night?” I moved to the other counter across from her girls.

“Sure the hell did,” the one who looked like a replica of Gigi responded.

I tilted my head to the side and asked, “Sisters?”

Her smile beamed. “Yup. I’m Georgia, Gigi’s little sister.” She pointed to the other one and said, “She’s her bestie though. Tatiana.”

Tatiana was all smiles when she looked at me. “Hey.”

Gigi walked around the kitchen as I continued talking to her girls.

“And you live here together?” I didn’t exactly have a tour of the house. But it looked big enough for all three of them to stay there.

But Georgia shook her head. She hesitated before answering, “We’ve been crashing here since last week for…” She eyed Gigi before saying, “Moral support.”

It took me a minute before I connected all the dots. The night we had in her bed eclipsed the discussion we had at the bar. But the details, how she cried, her fucked-up ex, all came back to me. “Right.” I nodded but didn’t want to go any further.

“So…” Tatiana looked me up and down. “Tell us about you. I hear you and your boys are all athletes. Rookie year.” She continued, “Must be exciting.”

“It is. I’m ready for the season.” I looked behind me at Gigi, who busied herself with a stack of papers.

“Football isn’tmy thing,” she looked at Georgia then to Gigi, “but I’ll support. Go…” Tatiana had her arm lifted in the air like a cheerleader. “What’s the name of the team here?”

I laughed. “Phoenix Fury.”

She yelled, “Go Fury.”

We all laughed. But it was the sound of Gigi’s behind me that made the hair on my neck stand up. I walked over to her and asked, “You good?” When she was heads down again.

“Yeah,” she said, looking up to me. “I’ve kinda ignored everything for a week.” She lifted the stack of mail. “Time to get back to it, I guess.”

I raised my hand to her cheek and let my finger trace her face. “What’s the rush?” Our eyes locked into a long stare before the sound of the doorbell ringing broke it. “I can get it.” I walked to the front door and heard the three of them whispering behind me.

When I answered the door, I forgot about the fact that there would be people who recognized me. The stunned look on the delivery guy’s face caught me off guard as I outstretched my arm and he didn’t move.
