Mrs. Isaac and my mom weren’t as interested in the plays. They gathered around the food and drinks in the back of the club room instead. We had a wide sampling of everything available. Wings, pizza, cute sandwiches, even Fry Bread tacos. I didn’t realize the stadium could get Fry Bread tacos. Apparently, our moms were as excited as I was. Watching the two of them chat it up like they’d known each other for years was adorable.

“This is so cute,” I said to Tatiana, who hadn’t taken her eyes off the field.

“Cute?” She side-eyed me briefly. “Girl, there is nothingcuteabout the men down there. They range from sexy, to God-sculpted statues of amazing beauty.”

“Whoa,” Georgia blurted beside her. “You better cool down before you melt in here.” Then she looked behind us and asked, “You acting all crazy because ol’ boy showed up with his girl?”

I looked behind us where Cam and Jared sat. A beautiful woman sat beside Jared. I smiled and waved before telling Tatiana, “She’s cute.”

Tatiana rolled her eyes. “I’m not worried about him.” Still, she didn’t flash her eyes away from the field.

The ball was in Tree’s hands. He had already scored a few touchdowns. One more would only add to the huge gap in the score. The guys stood to watch, and Georgia’s legs bounced. I watched as Angelo sprinted forward, catching up with Tree. “Ugh. What is he doing?”

I looked at Tatiana and she shrugged. “You know I don’t know.” She urged. “Just watch.”

As Angelo continued, I asked anyone who would know the answer, “Why is Angelo running beside Tree?” Nobody answered.

Finally, Mr. Isaac responded, “He’s a team player, maybe he sees something we don’t see.”

The clock was winding down, and they didn’t need any more points to win. I inched forward on my seat. “But what if he gets hurt?”

“Shh…” Tatiana hushed me. “Watch.”

“Since when are you a fan?” I smirked and watched Tatiana roll her eyes.

Georgia laughed beside her. “Since she discovered tall, sexy, and rich was her type.”

The ball landed in Angelo’s hands and the crowd stood. Everyone in the room around me stood too. Everyone except for me. I placed my hands in front of my eyes. The last thing I needed was for him to get tackled. Hurt. Taken out of the game. My heart pounded against my chest. Or worse.

But Tatiana pulled my hands from my face as everyone cheered. “Girl, your man got a touchdown.”

While trying to find him among his teammates crowded around him, I looked up at the jumbotron. It read, “Will you marry me?”

“Awe,” I sighed, “Someone is proposing at the game.”

Georgia pointed to the endzone and shouted, “Gigi, look.”

Angelo was on one knee. Looking up into the stands. “He’s proposing? To me?”

Tatiana shook her head and laughed. “Girl, yes.”

I ran toward the back of the room, his mom caught me by the arm and warned, “Wait, a minute left on the clock.”

It was the longest minute of my life. But when the game ended, everyone in the room rushed the field with me. I found Angelo and ran toward him as fast as he ran down the field for that touchdown. “Baby,” I shouted when I reached him.

He wrapped his arms around me, but then pulled away. His hand outstretched before he kneeled before me. A box in his hands as he asked, “Gianna, Gigi, baby, will you make me the luckiest man alive and be mine for the rest of our lives?”

I nodded, tears streaming down my face, hand covering my mouth. “Yes.”

He slipped the ring on my finger. It was beautiful, but not as beautiful as the smile he was rocking.

I bent down to kiss him, and he stood. His arms wrapped around me and my feet flew from the ground.

“Angelo, Angelo…” I heard from different people around us. A few reporters had their mics outstretched.

He placed me to the ground and shook his head. Squeezing me beside him, he said, “There’s only one journalist I’m talking to today.” He pointed to Corinne and her eyes bulged. He nodded. “Come on, girl.”

Corinne stepped forward. She looked between us before pulling her phone out, tapping, then stretching it toward him. “Angelo Isaac. I must say, that was the play of a lifetime.”

He stared into my eyes. “Shit, feels like I won the Super Bowl.”

I reached up to his face and said, “Hmm… but it looks like I’m the one with the trophy.”

There were claps and cheers, louder than when he made his touchdown, when he took my lips in his again.

The End
