“It’s a good thing I was early for once then, huh?” He grins before he walks off.

“You’re such a motherfucker. You know that, right?” I laugh as I watch his most glorious backside walk away from me. Fuck, he has a great ass. “Even the initials of your name match it.”

“You’re the one marrying this motherfucker,” he snickers as he opens the front door of the apartment and extends his arm. Signaling it’s time for us to go.

My steps falter as the wordmarryingleaves his mouth. I catch myself before he sees the ways his words hit me though.

Was what he said to me before real?

Or is it just the start of our acting for tonight?

It’s starting to become very fucking hard to decipher what’s what anymore.

Marc surprised me when he hopped into the driver's seat of his fancy, and very expensive looking car. I had assumed Fred would drive us to Bill's house since I have never seen him drive himself anywhere before. The car screamsMade for Marc Ford. It’s a sleek black sports car that can barely fit someone larger than a toddler in the backseat. The inside was all black to match the exterior. I’m willing to bet this thing can drive itself.

The drive took us over an hour. I didn’t realize his boss’ place would be outside of the city on Long Island. Traffic at this hour, on a Friday, in the summer… talk about a nightmare.

“Are you ready for this?” he asks after we pull into the driveway.

This isn’t a cottage, a penthouse or a house. This is a full-blown mansion right on the lake. The life of luxury has never been on my vision board. Can you imagine having to clean a place of this magnitude? No ma’am.

“Born ready, babe. Am I dressed okay? I didn’t expect a place like this when you said dinner.”

He takes a moment to scan my body. The corner of his lip tipping up just the slightest bit before his tongue swipes slowly along his bottom lip. Once again, pouring gasoline on the fire that he ignited inside of me.

“Perfect.”

Then he’s out the car door.

Leaving me there gaping at theone wordhe left me with.

But it wasn’t what he said, it was how he said it.

That word dripped with lust, and not a single ounce of sarcasm.

Reluctantly I exit the car and as soon as I do, the extra-large double doors of the mansion swing open and Bill greets us from the top of the steps leading up to the door.

“Hey, kids!” He beams. “I’m glad you made it. I was afraid you would get lost. We’re tucked away back here in the woods and sometimes it’s hard to find.”

Marc takes my hand in his as if we do this every day.

“Hey Bill. No issues at all. Thank you so much for having us.” His hand doesn’t leave mine as he uses his opposite hand to give Bill a welcome handshake. “Before I forget, we brought some ice cream for the apple crisp. Avery says we can’t have apple crisp without it. I would throw it in the freezer, because it got a little soft on the ride here.” He hands him the small bag with the tub of ice cream.

“Oh perfect! Please come in.” He signals with his arms. “Cathy is just about done.”

Marc removes his hand from mine, and I feel like I can take a breath again. Except… he places his palm on the small of my back. I feel my body quiver in response to the touch.

“Are you cold?” He leans in to whispers in my ear.

“No,” I answer a little too quickly, shaking my head.

I need to snap out of this right fucking now. I can’t let Marc know that he’s getting to me.

Cathy breaks my thoughts by greeting us in the entryway.

“Marc!” she bellows before she wraps her arms around him for a hug. “It’s so good to see you again.”

“You too, Cathy,” Marc replies. “Thank you for having us. Your home is beautiful, and I can already tell dinner is going to be amazing. It smells so great.”
