“Thanks for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mercer, you haven’t lost it a bit. Malachi, it was good seeing you. Makai, may God be with you. Pops, talk soon.”

She went around the table, sharing her thoughts with each individual.

“Aeir. It was nice meeting you. You have a beautiful family.”

“So do you,” Aeir responded, smiling up at us both.

“I’m trying to tell her, Aeir.”

“Milo, quiet,” she barked. “Thank you.”

“Appreciate that.” Malachi laid a hand on his chest.

“I’m going to get this boy home. I’ll come back for my car in the morning. I’ll stop by Milo’s to grab him first.”

“I’ll take care of it,” Malachi offered.

“I got it,” Mercer offered as well.

“I’m the only one at the table with a towing truck,” Makai reminded us all.

“What we need a towing truck for when it’s more than enough of us here to get the job done?” Mercer asked.

“Exactly,” Malachi added.

“Well, it would be great, whoever could get it to my address.”

“Don’t worry. Just leave your keys inside,” Makai instructed.

We made our way toward the door, but not before I stole a few kisses from Aussie, who was still occupied with digital flashcards. Though under the influence, chivalry, for me, still existed.

“Milo, I’ve got it. I promise,” Nature told me as I rounded my car on my way to her rescue.

“You’d better not touch that fucking door, Nay. I’m serious.”

With her hands in the air, she stood off to the side, waiting for me to open the door. Once I had, she lowered her body into the driver’s seat, reminding me that I needed to look into a new set of wheels, one that would accommodate a family that would need a car seat over the next six to seven years.

Slowly, I made my way to the passenger side, holding onto the car for support. Almost immediately after I was in my seat, Nature punched the gas. With my back pressed against the seat, I couldn’t refrain from staring at her bare face.

She’s a fucking doll.

Nature’s beauty was alluring and the thought that it wasn’t a permanent part of my daily routine was agonizing. Waking up to that face every morning would be my personal slice of heaven on earth.

Taking her eyes off the road for a split second, she peered in my direction. Shaking her head, she turned around. The smirk on her face left me with a silly smile on mine. It didn’t matter what the circumstances were, I loved this woman down. She could have anything she wanted from me, but most of all, I wanted her to have my heart. That’s what we both needed most.

“What?” Nature shrieked.

“Let’s get married,” I slurred, resting my hand on her belly and inching as close to her as I could as she drove.

“Be serious, Milo.”

“I am serious, Nay. You don’t think we’d survive marriage?”

“Me, yes. You, no, I don’t and I’m not going to set myself up for that big fat failure either.”

I lifted my head and turned to her with as much seriousness as I could muster.

“Damn, you have no hope in your boy.”
