She was completely overloaded with sensations when Fletcher picked her up as if she were weightless and set her down on a chair. Nolan sank to his haunches, took a shoe from her hand, and then proceeded to lift her foot.

She was going to die.

“You don’t have to,” she started to say but gasped as he slipped his hand under her calf, guided her foot into her shoe, then fastened the tiny strap. When he was done with the other shoe, she sprang up from the chair, then had to catch her breath before she pretended everything was just peachy fine.

“Come on, then,” she said, clapping her hands. “Let’s go to the ball. Oh, wait, I just have to get my purse.” She made a U-turn to go back to the bedroom.

This was good. She was talking to them and touching them, and she hadn't melted into a puddle at their feet. All good. If she didn’t count the wetness clinging to her folds and soaking into her panties, she would go as far as saying she was almost completely cured… but she wasn’t which explained why she made a dive for her stones and if the chance of her choking and dying weren’t so great, she could swallow her three protective baubles, just so it would work even better.

She transferred the little pouch into her tiny evening purse, then clutched it so tightly that she felt as if her knuckles were going to crack.

“Right, let’s go.”

She didn’t know if she was faltering or outright failing but standing in the elevator with them—her in front, them behind her—was playing havoc with her nerves. Maybe she had used up her allotted time with them to be normal, and now she was going to change into her unnormal, strange, and bizarre self.

“I hope Greg is okay,” she said at the same moment as her phone beeped. “It’s a message from Greg.” Unconsciously, she turned around and started to read it. Greg was their cousin as well, after all, and she was sure they were worried about him too.

Sorry, I had to leave. My house flooded, and I had to sort a few things out.

“Oh my gosh. His house got flooded,” she said in disbelief before she continued reading.

I didn’t want to leave you, so I’ll see you at the ball.

She bit her lip as she silently read the rest of his message. That wasn’t meant for their ears.

I’m looking forward to it, Holly, and thanks again for the invitation to share your suite. I’m looking forward to that even more.

Love

Greg

Oh, he signed the message,Love Greg.

Oh!

“He’s fine. I’ll see him at the ball.”

She was lost for words when Kingston took her phone from her hands before she could turn around again.

“You won’t be seeing Rice again this weekend,” Kingston said in his commanding voice.

“What? What do you mean? I’m going to see him at the ball. He’s perfectly fine.”

“We don’t care if he’s perfectly fine or not. You’re not seeing him again this weekend.”

“Okay, you’re not making any sense.”

“Maybe this will help,” Fletcher volunteered. “You are not allowed to see Greg again in any shape or form.”

“Yeah, that helped a lot,” she said, growing more frustrated.

“He’s not good enough for you,” Nolan said.

“Excuse me, what?”

“You heard me, Holly,” Nolan replied, but this time he lowered his voice and tinged it with a rumbling roughness that made her skin sizzle.

“You don’t want me to date Greg?” she asked, just to be sure.
