Kai lifted an eyebrow and slanted his head as he continued to stare at me for a moment. “Okay,” he said slowly as he nodded. “Well, I can just see myself out then.”

A groan slipped from my lips and I locked my legs around his waist as I turned my head to the side. “I want you to keep fucking me.”

His hand gripped my chin and he turned my head to face him. “Say it again. Like you actually mean it.”

“Fuck me, Kai. Fuck me until there’s nothing left of me.”

His mouth twitched, but he didn’t dare smile. “That’s better.”

He released my chin and laid his palm against the side of my face. His touch was soft and tender as he began to move his hips once again. It was different. There was a shift between us as his eyes burned through mine. The way he moved, it was slow and torturous. His brutality was a completely different kind.

He wasn’t fucking me anymore.

He was breaking me apart from the inside out.

Kai’s other hand brushed against my clit, making my eyes roll back in my head from the ecstasy. His hips shifted and he kept a steady pace, stroking my insides with the length of his cock while he played with my clit. I was seeing stars, my back arching and my hips involuntarily bucking, wanting more from him.

His hand that was on the side of my face was now back under my chin. “Open your eyes, Winter,” his bourbon-tinged breath fanned across my face. “I want to see you while you shatter into a million pieces.”

My eyes were on his and I was slowly losing myself. I fought against the urge to close them as he pushed me over the edge. His thumb brushed my clit once more and my orgasm tore through my body like a whirlwind. He stared down at me, thrusting into me harder as he lost himself deep inside me.

We were both riding the high of one another. His thrusts slowed, until he fell still. A ragged breath escaped him as he slowly pulled out of me and slid between me and the back of the couch. His arms were around me and he pulled me in, holding me close.

“I still hate you,” I breathed against his chest as I pressed my face against his warm skin.

“Shh,” he murmured as he smoothed my hair along my back. “You can hate me tomorrow.”

My arms tightened around him. “I will.”

“Good.”

The silence wrapped itself around us, but Kai was still consuming me. There was a coldness—a bitterness—to his tone, but his body was warm. He was just as I remembered him to be. Just as contradicting, and a complete whirlwind.

We always were a fucking mess.

And we were never destined for anything but utter devastation.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

MALAKAI

“Shit,” Winter mumbled as she wriggled in my arms. “Shit, shit, shit.”

“Be quiet.”

She stilled in my arms. I wasn’t ready to wake up. I wasn’t ready for reality and for this moment to be over between us.

“You need to go, Malakai.”

Well, there went the moment.

I opened my eyes and met Winter’s green ones staring back at me. They were wide, yet there was something lingering in her expression that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. If I really tried to read it, I would guess it was regret mixed with panic.

“You’re regretting last night now, aren’t you?”

Her nostrils flared and her chest expanded as she inhaled deeply. “Yes—no—” she paused and shook her head while her shoulders sagged in defeat. “I don’t know, Kai.”

My heart crawled into my throat. Winter appeared distressed, yet I knew I wasn’t the one who could comfort her at this moment. She was distressed because ofme.Because of what happened betweenus.
