"Not a fucking chance in hell."

"I'm staying," she said, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Maverick," I shouted, my gaze meeting his. I didn't need to say anything else. He knew what that meant: take her out of here, willingly or not. I didn't want her to witness what was about to happen.

"Don't you do it," she snarled at Maverick as he moved to her. She leaned forward, ready to attack.

"Please don't hurt me," Maverick whined.

"Go help him." I shrugged to Julian.

"Come on, Harper," Chloe said. "Let the boys clean up this mess, and you can tell me how you laid that jerk out." Her eyes flipped back and forth between Chloe and me before hesitantly agreeing.

Chapter 31

Harper

When we made it back to the beach house, Christian sat Chloe and me down and explained why he was talking to Alexi and the information she'd had given him.

"So, let me get this straight," Chloe huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "You want me to go into hiding because a group of loser thugs thinks Harper is staying with me?" Aiden nodded. "No, that's crazy. Tell them to bring it!" She leaned into Aiden dramatically. Chloe was taller than most girls, and Aiden still towered over her, but she wasn't the least bit intimidated by him or his size. "I got something special just for them."

"Chloe," Aiden grumbled in exasperation, shoving his hand through his dark hair. Chloe and Aiden stood toe to toe in the center of the

living room while the rest of us stood in a circle around them, ready to intervene if Chloe knocked Aiden out, and I think we were getting closer and closer to that happening.

"It would only be temporary," Christian intervened.

"Temporary is still too long to hide from a bunch of juvenile bullies."

"I could make you," Aiden threatened, leaning down eye to eye with her. His nostrils flared on a long-inhaled breath.

"And I could beat the shit out of you," Chloe snarled, pressing her nose to his. They stood eye to eye for several long seconds before Aiden blew out a guttural growl, bawling his fists and spinning away from her.

"I think we all need to chill for a minute," Ryder exclaimed, releasing a sigh and moving closer to Chloe so he was now between her and Aiden. "This isn't getting us anywhere."

"He's right," Christian agreed, running a hand over his face.

Aiden threw his hands in the air, spinning on his heels, and stormed out of the house, and Chloe mimicked him, going in the opposite direction towards their bedrooms.

"Well, that went well," Maverick said, slumping into a chair.

"I'll go talk to Chloe," I said, blowing out a breath.

"Actually," Christian said, stopping me. "Let me talk to her. Why don't you see if you can get Aiden to calm down." I nodded.

Stepping into the cool night air, I spotted Aiden at the edge of the patio, staring out into the darkness of the night, his hands shoved in his pockets, his expression pained.

"Why does she have to be so impossibly difficult?" Aiden growled through gritted teeth when I stepped up beside him.

"Because if she weren't, she wouldn't be Chloe." I smiled. He cut his eyes to me before his gaze moved back to the darkness. "You want to take a walk?"

"Yeah," he said, nodding.

Kicking my sandals off, I sank my toes into the soft white sand. I stepped in beside Aiden as he stormed towards the pier. I wasn't sure if he was actually walking fast or if my legs, which were half his size, had trouble keeping up with his long strides.

"Hey," I squealed. "Did you want to walk or run?"

"Sorry," he said, stopping and giving me a chance to catch up. "It's just." He paused and started walking again at a much slower pace. "I just got her back, and I don't want something to happen to her."I just got her back.We would circle back to that later.
