“I’ve seen that,” Danna said softly, and I thought back to the night I’d ripped the pack of rogue wolves apart at her safe house. That had been a loss of control, but for all the right reasons.

“Yeah, it was worse than that, though, and it’s why I kept pushing you and Emmie away. Everyone, actually. I had to keep you safe, and I had to accept that the biggest danger to you was me.”

Danna shook her head and put her hand on my cheek. “I’ve trusted you from the start. The curse doesn’t matter to me.”

“I’m glad,” I said. “But it’s gone.”

“What?”

“Circe helped me get rid of it, and it’s gone now.”

Danna looked surprised. “So… you’re okay?”

“I’m okay,” I said. “More than okay, because I can get closer to everyone I love now. I can get closer to you. And Emmie.”

Danna opened her mouth like she wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words.

“Yeah,” I said. “I’m saying I love you.”

Danna’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and she pressed her lips against mine.

“I love you too,” she said when she broke the kiss, her eyes still misty, but she was smiling, and seeing her happy warmed my heart.

“Let’s go inside,” I said, looking into her eyes. They were green as they’d been before, but they glowed now with an inner power.

Danna turned, and we walked to an abandoned cabin together, arm-in-arm.

When we got there, Rune was human and dressed, and Circe sipped water from a bottle.

Rune came to me and handed me a pair of pants to pull on.

“He’s a dick,” he spat right away. “My ownbrother. Blood of my blood, and this is what he does?!”

He was seething, and I understood him. More than he knew.

I put my hand on his shoulder. “I’m sorry. I know how much it hurts.”

Rune clenched his jaw, and he shook his head, looking away from me.

“It means everything that you didn’t take his side but chose to stay loyal to me,” I added.

“Of course,” Rune said. “You’re not only my alpha, you’re my friend. I’ve always felt we were more like brothers, and now I know it’s true. I don’t have family in that sense of the word.” He scowled again just thinking about Zen. “At least, I have you.”

“And you always will,” I promised. “But first, we need to take care of business. Did you call them?”

Rune nodded. “They should be here soon.”

“Call who?” Danna asked.

She was magnificent. She was sure of herself, and she exuded a different kind of energy than before. Energy and sexuality. Fuck, I wanted her. I wanted her so much more than before, and that was already a hell of a lot.

Later, I would make her mine as I had before, and this time, our dragons would connect, too. I would make our bond official. I would make her mine in every sense of the word.

I shivered, and my body grew hot at the thought, but I pushed it away.

Business first, bang later.

I grinned inwardly at my stupid joke.
