“Thank you.”

Aly certainly would have been pissed that I didn’t tell her I was there or that Felix and I have mated. He saved me from upsetting my best friend. A surprisingly thoughtful move for the dark fae.

I pull out my phone and call Aly.

“Hey!” Her cheerful voice brings a smile to my face.

“Hey, how are you?”

I’m nervous to tell her, even though I know she will be, without a doubt, excited for me.

“I’m good, just relaxing with Jax.”

That means she’s not going right?

“Oh, I hope I’m not interrupting!” I say.

She laughs. “Never. So, what’s up? I can tell from here that something is on your mind.”

“Well, I wanted to let you know that, uh, Felix and I mated.”

There’s a pause and then her squeal almost shatters my sensitive eardrums. “That’s so exciting! I’m so happy for you! You both need to come over for dinner to celebrate.”

I breathe out a sigh of relief. I didn’t realize I was nervous about her reaction until it was positive.

“That sounds great.”

“Tonight? I could get Jay on it now.”

That answers the question of if she’s going to the ball. I should still tell her, I just don’t want her worried. If Nic’s parents are there they’ll recognize me, though.

“I can’t. We have to go to this ball thing tonight. I don’t know all the details, but I’m going as Felix’s date.”

There, simple. No mention of anything else going on.

“Oh, you’re going to that? Shoot, if I would have known, we could have joined you.” She sounds genuinely disappointing, making me feel bad.

“Sorry, I didn’t know about it until a few days ago and didn’t even think about Nic being invited until Aksel said something.”

“Aksel?” She asks, her voice tight. “Nic doesn’t like him.”

I laugh. “I don’t think anyone does. I have to go, but thanks for sharing in my excitement.”

“Of course! Love you!”

“Love you.”

I hang up, feeling lighter after talking to Aly. Sometimes you just need a best friend to be excited for you to make everything feel normal.

Even if I have to go to some elite ball full of people who are going to judge me.

It will be fine.

We pull up to an imposing museum in our limo. It was sitting outside the house when I came down dressed. The guys and I were all waiting outside for Anna. When she came out looking so fucking incredible Griffyn and I tried to drag Anna back into the house towards a bed. I think Anna was going to let us, considering how she looked at us in our tuxes. She said we could be models, of course I flexed a little when she said that. Aksel, predictably, stopped us, forcing us all into the limo. Blaze even told Anna she looked beautiful, making her blush.
