Someone opens the door, holding out a white glove to escort Anna out of the car. I hop out first, nudging the man away and helping Anna out myself. I pull her tight against my body as soon as we are out of the car.

“You’re tense,” she whispers.

“I don’t like having you around these people in general, but I especially hate having you around all these males.” I wrap my arm around her waist in a possessive move.

I see threats everywhere, especially from every male that stares a little too hard at how perfect Anna looks in her dress.

We are newly mated and this is our first time around strangers together. The guys warned Anna I might be agitated and even she could feel extra possessive.

There are so many people here, I’m sure it’s only going to get worse.

We step away from the door so the others can get out. Anna runs a palm up my chest, soothing me. “Don’t worry. I’m yours and no one could ever change that fact.”

My shoulders drop slightly.

“Oh good, Felix is feeling the effects of the bond. Not like we had anything else to handle tonight,” Aksel says.

“He’s trying his best Aksel. If you had a mate as perfect as Anna, you would be on edge too. So sad you don’t,” Griffyn says as he comes up to Anna’s other side, wrapping an arm around her on top of mine.

I feel more secure with him wrapped around her too.

“This might be my favorite spot to be.” Anna leans up and presses a kiss to each of our cheeks.

“Damn right it is,” I growl, pulling us toward the door behind Aksel.

We walk through the entrance to see a grand ballroom with tall ceilings and shimmering chandeliers. The walls are soft gold, and the floors are covered with a luxurious red carpet that sparkles in the light.

“I feel like I’ve stepped into a castle and a king is about to greet me,” Anna says.

“It’s outrageous,” Griffyn adds.

We follow behind Aksel to our assigned table which is set with beautiful decorations and fine china, even the chairs are draped in silk. There is a live band playing a variety of music, ranging from classical to modern.

Thank God Aksel dressed us because everyone else is also dressed to the nines in elegant evening gowns and tuxedos. Anna’s red ball gown is elegant and shows every inch of her curves. It’s made of silk and has a floor-length hemline. The bodice dips perfectly into her chest and I want to tear the straps right off her to ravish her. She told me she paired it with a pair of black heels Aksel got her.

A man comes up with a tray of champagne. I grab one and pass it to Anna before gulping another.

“I’m going to need a little alcohol to get through tonight,” I reply when I see her raised eyebrow.

“Same,” Griffyn says before he throws one back and sets the empty glass down, trading it out for a new glass.

His eyes are locked across the room where a group of females our age are staring at him like he’s their next meal. It’s nothing new. These disgusting people always look at him like he’s an object they can use and throw away.

Anna grabs his hand and pulls him closer to her, stealing his attention. “I’ll fight them off for you.”

She flashes a little fang making him smile. “Thanks, Vixen. You’re the only girl I want around me tonight.”

Aksel is immediately pulled into a conversation with an older man. Blaze moves closer to us, ignoring anyone who comes up and tries to engage him.

“How many of these have you guys been to?” Anna asks. “You seem to know the deal, but avoid dealing with anyone else and stick together as a group.”

“Enough,” Blaze answers.

The atmosphere is filled with dancing and laughter, but most of it seems forced and fake. I know it is. Everyone here is two-faced.

A stunning woman draped in a gold gown makes her way towards us. She doesn’t even acknowledge Anna, Blaze, or me, instead, she focuses on Griffyn.

“Ah, the incubus is here. Perfect.” She runs a finger down his chest, along the buttons of his shirt.
