“One more?” I ask.

Blaze hesitates, searching my face. I keep a sweet smile on my face until he nods once and steps back into the dance. We move like middle schoolers at a dance and I love every second of it.

“Blaze, I would like to know what you were going to say,” I say softly.

Again he watches my face. He does that a lot. I think it means he isn’t sure what my intentions are, but I could be wrong.

When he stays quiet, I take a deep breath and say, “I notice you Blaze, and would love to spend more time together and get to know you. Griffyn and Felix aren’t the only ones who have my attention.”

Shit, did I just make things awkward? We still have to work together even if he rejects me and I’m Felix’s mate and dating Griffyn so I’ll be around even after this case is over.

Then, the best thing happens. He smiles. He keeps his teeth hidden behind his lips, but there’s no doubt this is a smile. It’s beautiful and transforms his entire face into something softer.

“Then let’s do that.”

It takes me a minute to get out of the trance his smile put me in and realize he means spending more time together.

A soft chime rings through the room and the music changes to something softer.

“What was that?” I ask.

Blaze grabs my hand and leads me back to the table. “Dinner.”

When we reach the table, Felix and Griffyn are already sitting with an empty chair between them. I move towards it, but Blaze keeps hold of my hand, stopping me. He nods between Felix and the seat, indicating he should move. Felix searches Blaze’s blank face before taking note of our combined hands. A slight smile tugs at his lips before he moves over, making an opening for me to sit between Felix and Blaze.

I look at Griffyn to make sure he’s okay with this. He’s staring at Blaze like he’s an alien.

“I’ve never seen you interested in a girl before. Is that what this is?” Griffyn asks.

Felix hits his arm before waiting for Blaze’s answer too. When he stays silent, I decide to help him out.

“We are spending more time together and seeing where it goes.”

For a second, I worry Felix and Griffyn won’t be okay with this. Am I supposed to check in with them before starting something with someone else?

It’s not like Blaze and I went behind a curtain and fucked.

It was a stupid fear.

“Cool, welcome aboard bro,” Felix says.

Griffyn holds out a knuckle for a fist bump that Blaze reluctantly returns.

Aksel makes his way back to the table and sits next to Blaze. He does a double take at where I’m sitting, but one glare from Blaze stops him from asking questions.

“You’ve been busy,” I say.

“Everyone thinks I can help them with my father,” Aksel complains.

He opens up his napkin and spreads it on his lap like a prince.

“Bummer,” Felix says, resting a hand on my thigh.

“Plus, we are supposed to be listening for intel. I’m sure I have a better chance around other people instead of the four of you together.”

Griffyn opens his mouth to retort, but people sit down at the table.

It’s an elderly couple of one woman and three men. None of them say hello or acknowledge any of us except Aksel who they nod at.
