“You’re right. We should split up,” Aksel says.

“That’s a first,” Griffyn’s dull voice comments.

I feel his eyes swing to me when I scoff, but I don’t look over.

“Anna, you and Griffyn are with me,” Aksel starts, but there is no way I’m letting that happen.

“No.”

“Anna-” Griffyn says softly but I ignore him.

“They can’t work together, Aksel. Just switch them up,” Felix says.

Aksel glares at me but says, “Fine Anna and Felix are with me. Blaze and Griffyn you take this side of the house and we will find the other.”

The floors are made of polished marble, with intricate designs that seem to shift and change as we walk over them toward the kitchen.

An hour passes with each of us searching every inch of every room, closet, and even drawer for some sign of a basement, and we find nothing. We are all getting frustrated, I can’t imagine it’s going much better for Blaze and Griffyn or they would have found us.

“Could it be outside?” Felix asks.

I perk up. “It could. Some outdoor cellar entrance or even shed.”

Aksel comes closer. “It’s worth checking. You two go and I’ll finish scoping this area.”

Felix and I find the closest door to the backyard and start looking for any structures.

As I’m about to give up and go back inside, I see a shadow on the side of the house. I only notice it because my vampire vision would be able to see in the shadows but it’s still blacked out to me.

“Felix come here.”

I get closer and have the strongest feeling I need to get out of here.

“We gotta go,” I announce, grabbing Felix’s arm a few feet back and trying to drag him away.

Except, he’s strong in his own right as a shifter even with my vampire strength.

“Anna what’s wrong? What did you see?” He asks.

“I didn’t see anything. We have to leave.”

Felix stares into my eyes before slowly walking backward a few feet until my head can clear.

“I think there was a diversion spell making you leave unless you can tell me what made you want to leave?”

I shake my head trying to clear it, but there’s still no reason I can think of.

“Okay, we need the others if we want to get through this,” Felix says.

We both go inside. I’m still trying to get my thoughts back in order when we find Blaze and Griffyn.

“Where’s Aksel?” Blaze asks.

Griffyn is staring at me with concern. “Anna, are you okay?”

I give him a sharp nod.

“We think we might have found something. I’m going to grab Aksel, you three wait here,” Felix says.
