Blaze grabs me when I’m coming out of my room.

“Anna, I need to tell you something,” Blaze says.

“What is it?” I ask.

“This isn’t a conversation I ever imagined having to have. I don’t think I’m going to be good at it.”

“Blaze, you can tell me anything and we will figure it out together.”

He nods.

“Anna-”

“We need to leave,” Aksel walks out of his room and says.

Blaze’s entire face shuts down.

“We just need a second,” I try.

“No, if we don’t leave now, we could be late.”

Blaze pauses then grunts as we follow him downstairs, getting into Aksel’s SUV for a three hour drive, leaving Rion behind in the basement.

Griffyn is last to get in with his arms full of snacks. “I’ve got Cheetos, Twizzlers, pretzels, and three different types of potato chips. Road trip!”

Felix and I laugh at his enthusiasm.

“No food in the car,” Aksel says.

“Don’t be a stick in the mud. We have a three-hour drive ahead of us and for some reason we aren’t using transport charms, we need to entertain ourselves with food.”

“You know why we are driving. We are going through too many transport charms and even if I can afford them, they’re hard to get a hold of. We can drive, so we are driving,” Aksel says.

Griffyn rolls his eyes. “That and you want time with your precious baby.”

I’m pretty sure I see Aksel stroke the wheel.

Griffyn shuts the door with the snacks inside while Aksel death glares at him.

“Maybe we should play a game too? I spy?” Felix asks once we hit the road.

These two are ridiculous and melt the tension just with their humor. I decide to go along with them and try to keep the mood light for the drive. Blaze needs to take his mind off what lies ahead.

“I spy a big grump and an Akshole,” I say mischievously.

“I feel like I’m surrounded by children,” Aksel complains.

“Blaze and Aksel!” Griffyn shouts, answering me.

Aksel triggers the windshield wiper fluid and I finally see what Griffyn did along with the confetti. Red-tinged liquid sprays up and covers the windshield, shocking everyone.

Griffyn bursts out laughing, holding his stomach as he bends over in his seat.

“Your faces!” He shouts.

I can’t help joining him, laughing my ass off too. Aksel looks like he’s about to blow a gasket.

We are almost there and Aksel is still seething about the windshield wiper fluid. I can’t help pushing him further when I lean down and pick up a piece of blue confetti that dislodged itself when we stopped. Leaning forward, I set it on Aksel’s arm.
