I take a second look and then drop my hand and head toward the person I have missed so much it physically hurt.

“Faith!”

I start running and dodging the traffic, I fly into my best friend’s open arms with a sob.

“Purity.” Her arms close around me and she hugs me so hard I think I will break and as my tears splash onto her shoulder, I sob with relief that she’s found me.

“Oh my god, honey, I’ve been so worried.” She says with a break in her voice. “You weren’t answering your phone. I thought…”

She sobs on my shoulder, and we must be a crazy scene to anyone watching and as I pull back, I stare at her with a mixture of euphoria and tears.

“I’ve missed you so much.” I blurt out, the tears cascading down my face as she smiles through her own. “Me too, honey. I’ve been out of my mind with worry.”

I catch sight of Jonny, her man, out of the corner of my eye and his concerned expression makes me smile.

“It’s good to see you too, soldier.”

I smile through my tears, and he salutes me and whispers in his husky voice, “You too, princess.”

He jerks his thumb in the direction of the coffee shop.

“You should talk in there.”

Realizing we are quite the spectacle, I laugh softly, “Of course. Come, we have so much to talk about.”

Faith links her arm with mine and we follow him inside and Jonny heads off to order the drinks, while Faith and I huddle in a booth near the back of the shop.

She stares at me with concern.

“How have you been? What happened?”

As I fill her in, her eyes widen and when Jonny joins us, he listens with a feral gleam in his eye. They stay silent while I tell them everything, and Faith appears upset when she learns the full horror of my beginning.

I grasp her hand and smile.

“It’s ok honey. I’m happy now.”

The diamond ring on my finger sparkles as it catches the sunlight and she says with a worried frown, “Are you happy though, Purity? Do you love him?”

I say nothing because yes, I am happy, but I still don’t know what love is.

“Of course.” I take the easy route out and smile, deliriously happy because of the life growing inside me. I haven’t told her that piece of news yet because I want my husband to be the first person, other than me, to know.

“What about you?” I say quickly. “Is he treating you right?” I fix Jonny with a hard stare, and he grins as Faith reaches for his hand and says happily, “I never thought life could be so good, Purity. They certainly never taught us that in Heaven.”

“Thank God we made it out of there.” I say with a sad smile. “Have you been back since?”

“No.” She pulls a face. “I’mnevergoing back.”

“Well, I am,” I say with determination, and she appears shocked at that.

“Why?”

“Because I want answers. My family has lied to me my entire life and I want to hear it from their own mouths. As soon as Killian is available, I’m getting him to take me there so I can have it out with them.”

“Why bother?” Faith says sadly. “It doesn’t matter anymore. They don’t deserve any more of your time.”

“Closure I suppose.” I shrug. “You know me. I’ve always wanted answers and–”
