I open my eyes in fury as I hurry to the bus. I stare at my watch, only the notice that I have slept for thirty minutes. Fuck. I open my mobile only to be flooded by messages from Anna.

"Are you there?"

"How much longer?"

"Are you coming, Olivia?"

"Coming in a short while," I reply.

Entering the coffee shop, the aroma of freshly made coffee fills the room and immediately rouses my senses. The darkly lit, cozy space offers a haven from the busy metropolis outside. The background music produces a calming ambiance. I scan the room, my eyes landing on the inviting plush armchairs, trying to find Anna.

"Here, Olivia!" A shout arises from a distance. It's Anna.

I make my way to her and give her a gentle hug. It's been so long since we last hugged each other, and it feels good to be back in touch.

As I sit on my chair, a barista approaches us for our order.

"What can I get for you two lovely ladies?" he asks.

"I'll get an espresso," Anna replies.

"Make it two, please," I reply.

"Sure, two espressos coming right up," he replies, making his way to the counter.

"So, what's up, Anna?" I ask.

"Are you in a relationship with this basketball player, Ethan?" she asks curiously.

"Umm… Yeah." I stumble to answer her question, but then realize I have never kept any secrets from Anna.

"You are dating a basketball player?!" she asks again.

"Yes, Anna. What's wrong with that?" I ask her, getting a little annoyed with her questions.

"You can't be serious, Olivia. You know these players can’t be trusted, right?" she says.

"Why do you say so?" I ask.

"They cheat all the time," she whispers to me, making sure no one hears...

"Wait… What? How can you say that so confidently?"

"Okay, so I may have dated a basketball player, too," she says, gazing down at her nails.

"Really?!"

"Yes. He’s actually on the same team as Ethan, and he told me that Ethan and some other teammates used drugs to get on the team," she says.

"No way. I don't believe you," I reply.

The barista interrupts our talking and breaks the air between us. "Here are your coffees," he says, placing the cups on the table.

"Would you like anything else?" he asks.

"No, thank you," Anna replies.

"Very well. Enjoy your coffee," he says and leaves.
