Just as I assumed he would, Grayson followed me and instead of telling him what I was doing, I thought I’d start my day with a laugh.

I grabbed the biggest knife from the kitchen drawer and quickly sliced it over my thigh.

“What the hell, Kinsley?” Grayson shouted, tearing the blade from my hand. “Are you fucking crazy?”

I chuckled. “Nope. I just wanted to be sure these were really ‘teeth’ resistant.”

“And you didn’t think to test them when youweren’twearing them?” he said with obvious annoyance.

He had a point, but instead, I shrugged. “I didn’t think of testing them until I was already dressed. Getting undressed seemed like a waste of time.”

“Fucking hell, woman.” He threw the knife onto the counter and stormed off down the hallway as Lia came into the kitchen.

“What the hell crawled up his ass and died?” she asked with a frown.

I pointed to myself. “I tried to slice through the pants.”

“With them on?” Her eyes were wide.

“Yep.”

She shook her head and laughed. “Savage, girl.”

“Now we know they work,” I said with a wink. “Are you guys about ready? How’s Markus this morning?”

I’d already checked on him myself several times before we’d gone to bed, but he’d been sleeping every time. Lia had assured me he was going to be fine, just as Grayson had, but seeing that with my own eyes was the only thing I’d known would ease my concerns.

“He’s up and ready for a fight,” Markus answered instead of Lia as he came around the corner from the living room. “How about you?”

I smiled and let out a small sigh. “I’m about the same.”

“Let’s go, then,” Grayson said as he rejoined us.

The sword he’d picked last night was resting across his back with the handle up. That, combined with his black pants and charcoal shirt that formed nicely around his defined muscles, easily increased his sex appeal by a thousand percent.

Basically, he was the definition of sex on a stick. Even better, he was all mine.

Grayson strode to my side and whispered in my ear, “Keep looking at me like that and we’re not leaving this house.”

Nodding, I gulped then attempted to distract myself by double-checking that my twin daggers were strapped to my thighs over the tight, black pants.

They were as secure as they could get in the sheaths Grayson had given me, and there wasn’t anything left for us to do except meet up with the others.

Lia and Markus had already opened the front door, and when I moved to exit ahead of Grayson, a loud explosion sounded around us, vibrating the floor I still stood on.

“What the fuck was that?” I seethed.

“Seems like the fight came to us,” Grayson answered, pushing me forward. “We need to see where the blast hit and make sure everyone not fighting already made it to the hidden bunker.”

Ryder had made contingencies for those staying behind. Nobody would be in the houses or buildings like before. They were supposed to all be gathered in underground bunkers for the duration of the fight in case anyone slipped past us to attack.

There were still maybe twenty minutes until sunrise, though, which meant there was a chance innocent people had still been in their homes, saying their goodbyes.

The four of us ran, opting to stay on foot in case anyone needed our help while we searched for the others. When we arrived at the park, which was basically the center of Ryder’s faction, the warehouse we frequented for training was on fire, and wolves were fighting each other on the grass.

Fuck.This wasn’t good.

Lia stood ramrod straight, a silver energy shimmering around her. “I didn’t see this. How could I have not seen this?”
