I chewed my lip for a moment. Shook my head. "Nothing like that, no. Not that I recall. I saw a light, and then a bunch of smoke. Then I made Cavan take me down there with him. I didn't feel any burst of magic, just worry."

I told her about feeling Ryze and Vayne on the other end of the bond.

"I believe you," I added. I gave the closed door a quick glance too, before telling her everything else I knew. Everything except Ryze's plan.

"You don't think I had anything to do with that?" she demanded.

"No," I said firmly. "It sounds like whatever happened had some kind of impact on your magic. Have you tried using it since?"

"Yes, but it's as weak as ever." She sighed heavily. "It's as though none of that happened. I'm starting to think I imagined it."

"You didn't imagine it, but you should talk to someone who knows more about magic than I do."

"I'm not talking to Dalyth," she said quickly.

"I wasn't suggesting Dalyth," I said. "Ryze, or even Cavan. Either of them might have more answers than I do."

"Not Cavan either," she said. "I don't know if I can trust Ryzellius. He's one of them."

"A man?" I asked.

"A Fae High Lord," she replied. "I've seen Cavan and Harel. They all seem to have their own agenda and don't care who they use to get their way."

I couldn't argue the accuracy of her words. They did have their agenda, but who didn't right now?

"You can trust Ryze," I promised. "If you prefer, I can talk to him for you. I can try to keep your name out of it, but he knows we're in here talking."

She hesitated. "Make him promise not to tell anyone else," she said. Her mouth moved a couple of times before she continued. "Does this mean we're not leaving the Summer Court?"

"It might mean we're leaving sooner than I thought," I said. "But I'll let you know when I know." That was all I could give her right now.

She nodded and opened the door before following me out.

Ryze gave me a questioning look, but I shook my head. I'd tell him later.

"As much fun as this has been to spend so much time with so many beautiful women, Tavian, Khala and I are needed downstairs." Ryze gave the gathered omegas a bow and ushered us out the door.

Several of the women sighed as he left.

"You've still got it," Tavian told him.

"Do I?" Ryze asked. "I hadn't noticed." He slipped an arm around me. "I noticed you two."

We exchanged glances, rolled eyes and walked with him down the stairs and into another room where the staff were serving breakfast. As if they hadn't eaten already, both of them slipped into a chair and helped themselves to toast and eggs.

"How nice of you to join us," Cavan drawled from the head of the table. An empty plate set in front of him, but he was sipping from a delicate, porcelain cup. The smell of coffee mixed in with his eucalyptus and musk.

Wornar must have returned to the Spring Court. He was nowhere to be seen now.

"Isn't it though?" Ryze asked. "We thought about waiting until you left the room, but decided that would be impolite."

Both High Lords exchanged sarcastic smiles.

I slipped into a chair beside Ryze and reached for toast and black tea. I took my first bite when Harel finally shuffled into the room.

"Have any of you given up on the fantasy of the other courts?" He flopped heavily into a chair before reaching for three pieces of toast and a large pile of eggs. A member of staff poured him coffee, which he poked his finger into before half closing his eyes. Judging by the steam that rose a moment later, he'd heated it.

"No we haven't, Harel," Ryze drawled. "Have you finally figured out what actually happened? I'm sure everyone around this table would love to hear it."
