“Because you talked about the guy nonstop while Heather was under his care. I heard all about it. Jasmine and Violet would make comments.”

“Meaning Heather said something to them when she saw them at the greenhouses?”

She couldn’t believe her best friend was talking about her.

“Not like you think. Heather had nothing but good things to say about the guy and that you were always willing to take her because he was hot. It wasn’t said in a bad way. Just that I find it funny that you’re dating him. How did that happen?”

She told Rose about the visit when Heather got her cast off. “He was flirting with me. He even admitted it. I was doing it back. But we didn’t see each other again until I ran into him that night picking up dinner.”

“Sounds a little like it was meant to be. How did Poppy find out?” Rose asked. “Never mind. Her spidey senses figured out when you had sex, right?”

“I said it’s her superpower. It was like a month ago. We’ve been dating about six weeks maybe. Could be seven. I’m not counting exactly.”

“It sounds as if it’s going well though,” Rose said. “How long are you going to keep it a secret?”

“Not much longer. I just don’t know how to tell Heather now. It’s like I had all these great reasons to keep it quiet, but now it feels silly and stupid and I can’t seem to get it out of my mouth and worry she’s going to be mad.”

“I get it,” Rose said. “Sometimes time gets away from you and then it’s figuring out what to say.”

“That and the fact I almost feel sneaky in order to hide it. I only see him when Heather is with Luke. It cuts into our time to see each other, but he’s crazy busy too.”

“Why doesn’t Poppy know his name? I don’t understand that part of it.”

“Theo knows Reese. Or he said he met Reese years ago. I guess Theo’s father belongs to the same country club as Reese’s father and brother.”

“Oh,” Rose said. “Fromthatkind of money.”

“That’s another thing. I feel out of my element here, but Theo is nothing like that. Not that I know much about his family because he doesn’t talk about them. I just know he’s from Greenwich and he went to Yale and has two sisters. His parents are divorced too.”

“Don’t judge him on his family,” Rose said. “That is the best advice I can give you. Take it from someone who was judged on theirs.”

“Oh,” she said. “Trust me, I know.”

“I know you do. And you’re not that way. But that means not doing it because he has more too. If he makes you happy, that is all that matters. The rest can fall into place when it does.”

“You’re right. I think I’ll tell Heather soon.”

She had to. It was the right thing to do. If she could figure out the words to say and get the timing right.

Yeah, she was still dragging her feet with fear and hated that even more.

He Was For Her

Not even a full week later, Daisy was changing to go out to dinner with Theo.

She knew how much he loved her in spiky heels and she decided to put on a nice pair of pants and shoes. Heather was spending the night with Luke and she was finally going to stay the night with Theo.

He’d been hinting toward it and she wasn’t sure why she hadn’t.

Yeah, she did know why and it landed squarely on her shoulders. Heather didn’t know about Theo yet and she had to tell her. It was becoming ridiculous in her mind to not tell her best friend.

Her reasons were hers, but maybe she was blowing them up to be more than they should be at this point. And the longer she waited the more those reasons seemed to magnify until it was this ugly beast clawing its way out and threatening to ruin the happiness she’d finally found.

So she’d decided she was going to do it this weekend when they were home at the same time. No more waiting, but she hadn’t seen Heather much this past weekend to sit down and do it and she needed the time to explain it all.

She was getting ready to leave when the door to the condo opened.
