It’s been a while since I woke up with a smile on my face. Or so satiated. My body feels floppy as I roll onto my back.

I realize that Megan is not in bed with me. But I can smell food in the air. My stomach growls. Megan really knows how to make me want whatever she has.

And that includes her body.

I lie in bed for a while, thinking about what happened the night before. I hadn’t planned to have sex with her. That wasn’t why I brought her here. I hadn’t expected Megan to come into my shower and strip off for me while I was trying to take the edge off. But I’m fucking glad she did.

Now I’ve been inside her, tasted her body and heard her as she came, I don’t think I’d be able to let go. Megan is just incredible.

Of course, things are going to be a little complicated, but we can work around it. I know we can. I want us to work out. Hopefully, Megan feels the same way.

I get up and put on a pair of sweatpants, choosing to leave my chest bare. If Megan wants to get naked again, at least I’ve got less clothes to take off. My cock hardens at the thought of having Megan on my knees sucking my cock again. She looked gorgeous like that.

Heading downstairs, I follow the smell of food and enter the kitchen. Megan is there, fully dressed with her hair tied back, as she makes breakfast. My stomach growls, and I’m hungry for both the food and for the woman in front of me.

But even in the doorway, I can tell that there’s something different about Megan. She’s cool and collected, and there is tension in her body. She barely looks at me, and I’m sure she’s noticed me.

Now I’m worried. Did I do something wrong?

“Megan?”

“Morning.” Megan doesn’t look at me as she puts the frying pan back on the hob. “Breakfast is done. I was about to come and get you.”

It looks like a replay of Martha’s Vineyard is happening right now, down to the identical breakfasts. What was going on?

“Megan?”

“Don’t leave it for too long, Mr. Evans.” Megan picks up one plate and carries it toward the dining room. “It will get cold if you do.”

Mr. Evans. She was back to calling him that, was she? I don’t like it at all.

Ignoring my breakfast, I follow her into the other room. Megan puts her plate on the table and sits down. She is still not looking at me.

“Megan-”

“I’ve got to get back home. You don’t mind that I don’t eat with you, do you?”

Without waiting for an answer, she begins to eat. I can see her putting walls up around her again. My heart sinks to my stomach. I’ve messed up again, I can tell.

I swallow.

“I’m sorry.”

Megan pauses.

“What are you sorry about?”

“Whatever I did wrong last night. If I hurt you…”

“You didn’t hurt me,” Megan says quietly. “You did nothing wrong last night.”

“Then why are you behaving like this? This is the second time you’ve pulled away, and it’s beginning to scare me.”

This is the first time that Megan looks at me, and I can see the pain in her eyes. It makes me want to pull her into my arms, but I stop myself. The walls are still up, and I don’t think I can get through them. Megan sighs and puts her knife and fork down. She stands up.

“Look, Joel, last night was amazing. I will always remember it fondly.”

“But…” I prompt. “There’s a but in there.”
