“Pizza and home,” he repeats after me, nodding slowly.

He takes my hand and leads me back along the street.

We only take a few steps before he stops in his tracks.

“Did you forget where the pizza place is?” I ask, before I follow his gaze across the road.

A man in a suit is standing on the corner, hands in his pockets, his gaze fixed on Parker.

“Shit,” Parker curses quietly, as the man crosses the street, coming toward us.

I squeeze his hand and take it in both of mine. “Parker?”

He blinks at the man as he stops right in front of us.

“Well, don’t you have anything to say to me, Parker Jameson?”

Oh, Goddess. This man’s identity is right there in front of me. His face is an aged version of his son’s, proving that Parker will still look good in thirty years’ time, though he could never have the cold stare that this man possesses.

“Hey, Dad,” Parker finally mutters. “Long time no see.”

Chapter twenty-six

Parker

Fuck.I should have known this was on the cards when I saw Orion before the concert even started.

This really isn’t like the other times I’ve come back to town. I never ran into anyone who could have told my father where to find me any other night. This would have to be the one night someone could tell him exactly where he would be able to come find me. It wouldn’t take much to figure out we’d be leaving the building around this kind of time. Orion probably texted him the second the concert was over. I stand there staring at him, waiting for him to tell me what he actually wants.

I get ready to tell him where to go.

This isn’t happening. Not here. Not now.

My life isn’t here anymore. I can’t ever come back.

“Aren’t you going to introduce me to your mate?” he asks, his gaze flicking to Amanda before he raises his eyebrows at me. “And before you try to tell me she’s not yours, I already know you and your … pack brothers … have been mated to this girl since last summer.”

God, that’s creepy. He’s been spying on me for Apollo knows how long, and he thinks he can tell me that and I’ll just let him be a part of my life again?

Even if he’d disbanded the cartel, I wouldn’t let him back in. He’s a manipulative bastard. I don’t want him anywhere near my pack.

“We’re busy and it’s late, so …” I start, ready to be done with the conversation.

“So, you’ll invite me out to Wolf Creek to meet your pack and your mate in a more suitable setting this weekend,” he finishes for me, in a tone that tells me it’s already been decided.

“Why?” I ask, staring him down.

We haven’t been a part of each other’s lives since I moved out to Wolf Creek.

He disowned me. I thought that meant I’d never have to deal with him again.

“I’m your father,” he tells me. “I’m entitled to get to know the future mother of my grandchildren.”

He’s entitled to nothing, but he won’t listen if I tell him that.

“You didn’t want to see me ever again when you told me to leave.”

“A man can change his mind. You didn’t have a true mate then. You have one now.”
