Thank Apollo for that.

Chapter twenty-five

Amanda

Wemakeitthroughthe concert without encountering Parker’s old friend again, and he spends a few minutes thinking about it, before he sends a text to his father, telling him he’s in the city for the night.

I can tell he didn’t want to have to do that. His dad sounds like a dangerous person. There’s a reason Parker walked away from him. I hope he doesn’t end up having to deal with his father because he tried to do something nice for me.

The concert is amazing when it starts, and it passes in a crazy blur once Chaos Burning actually walk out on stage. It feels insane that I’m actually in the same room that they are. The band are a pack of wolf shifters, and most of the people who’ve come to watch them are human. The otherworldly energy they exude makes the live show so much more compelling than just listening to their albums.

I can see why people make a hobby of going to concerts. It’s pretty damn fun, even if it this place is packed and hotter than hell. We’re both sweating like mad by the time the encore ends.

I’m ready to go home, but Parker insists on stopping by the merchandise stall and getting me a bundle of shirts and stuff. Then, he asks me to pick one out for Dante. I go for black, because that’s totally Dante’s vibe.

It used to be Parker’s vibe, too, but he’s been trying different looks recently. I’m not really sure what prompted that change. He looks good in dark colors. What he’s wearing tonight feels more him than the stuff he was wearing yesterday.

He carries the bag of merch and keeps his other arm around me as we slowly exit the building with the rest of the crowd. I hear him growling lightly when we get jostled by some drunk humans who’ve clearly had a little more than their limit, but thankfully, the drunks manage to stop bumping into us, and Parker’s fuse doesn’t get lit.

When I feel the cool night air from the open exit doors, finally, I let out a relieved sigh. It feels good on my skin. It got so warm standing in that crazy packed crowd.

It feels even better once we step outside.

The crowd disperses in all directions.

Parker leads the way back to the car. We left it a few blocks away in a multi-storey parking lot, and there’s no way I’d be able to find my way back to that lot if I didn’t have him with me.

“All the streets around here look the same,” I tell him.

“They kind of do,” he admits. “It can be easy to get lost if you’re not familiar with the area.”

“Then, I’m lucky I have you.”

“No,” he tells me, giving me a smile. “I’m the lucky one.”

He stops walking to lean in and kiss me, moving so his arms are around me and I’m close to the building we just left. He breaks the embrace after a few intense seconds, sighing softly and resting his head against mine.

“We’re hitting a pizza joint before we get back on the road,” he tells me.

I raise an eyebrow at him. “You’re feeling hungry?”

“Maybe. A little.” He puts a hand against my stomach. “I need to make sure my pregnant mate gets everything she needs, and she didn’t eat a lot at dinner.”

“I guess I could eat,” I murmur, though I’m really thinking about how sweet he’s being and how much it makes me want to play our favourite game.

“Apollo, don’t look at me like that,” he says, his eyes flashing with the enhanced vision of his wolf.

“Like what?” I ask, trying to look innocent.

He leans in close and murmurs in my ear, “Like you want to strip me naked with your teeth.”

I smile at him before I push onto my toes and lean into whisper, “Well, don’t kiss me again until you’re ready to be stripped naked by my wolf.”

He raises an eyebrow at me, and I tug on the hem of his shirt, ripping a tiny hole in the fabric with one partial shifted claw. He looks down and blows out a breath.

“New fantasy unlocked,” he mutters, his gaze darkening.

I let go and give him a tiny push. “Pizza, and home.”
