I’m about to tell him I don’t think I can eat another couple slices, when I realize, actually, I probably could. Now that I’ve started to eat, I do feel hungry.

“Two slices will be more than enough,” I tell him.

He shakes his head. “You’re eating for two now, Amanda. At least. I don’t want you depriving yourself of anything you both need.”

I finish off my first slice and start on my second.

Goddess, this pizza is good.

“Why does this taste so much better than the pizza we get back home?” I ask him.

He laughs. “It’s because there are people in the city who really know how to make good pizza. Sal’s pizza is okay, I guess, but the dough’s a little heavy and he doesn’t make his own sauce.”

I take another bite and notice the tangy sweetness of the sauce this time, realizing he’s right. The sauce itself is the main difference. Of course, the base is also perfectly cooked, and the pepperoni is delicious. I finish my second slice easily.

“Still think you can’t manage three slices?” Parker teases me.

“I might be able to choke this last slice down. Maybe,” I tell him, making him laugh.

“You’re so cute when you’re enjoying your food.”

I pick up the third slice, barely believing I’m about to be this greedy in front of one of my mates.

He ate way more than I did when we stopped for dinner, but still … this feels kind of gluttonous.

“You’re sure you don’t want some?” I ask him, before I demolish the rest of the slice.

He shakes his head. “I’m not hungry. I just had a slice for the taste.”

I finish up and close the box. He takes it with his empty can and tells me he’ll be back in a sec.

The trashcan is just across from where we’ve parked, sitting outside the entrance to the lot.

He ditches our trash quickly and jogs back to the car.

Getting back in the driver’s seat, this time, he starts the engine.

It’s eleven p.m. and we’ve got a four-hour drive ahead.

I’m definitely going to fall asleep in class tomorrow, but it was totally worth it.

Chapter twenty-eight

Sean

Thewaitingaroundstartsto drive me crazy when it passes midnight, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to bed. I can tell Dante feels the same way. It’s been hours since our wolves rose to the surface in response to the blessing resurfacing. We both know it means Parker and Amanda stopped on the way out of town to have a little bonding time.

It felt different when my wolf settled tonight.

He was satisfied, instead of agitated.

That has to mean something.

I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I’m almost completely sure it means they accepted the blessing. I want to know, but it doesn’t feel right to ask by text message. Apparently, Amanda feels the same since none of the updates she’s given have even mentioned the blessing.

So, now I get to wait up for another few hours until they get home, feeling like I’m ready to start bouncing off the walls.

I pace around the main room of the apartment while Dante looks through a spell book, trying to figure out how to unlock the book of shadows they found in the woods.
