The truth is, there are more realms that can be accessed by magic than most witches and warlocks will ever know exist. If Amanda’s been taken to one of them, finding her will be harder than locating a needle in a haystack.

Rachel looks up at me. “As long as I can feel her energy, we have something to connect to. We’ll find a way to bring her back. I’m going to call Cheryl. We should both be here working on this.”

I nod and she brings out her phone. I sink down on the floor next to Amanda’s light.

“I wish I could feel your energy.” It’s the one and only time I’ve ever regretted not being part of a coven. I feel useless. My mate is gone, and I can’t reach her.

Magic is the one thing we share that she doesn’t have with Sean and Parker.

It should be another way for us to find each other, an extra connection.

I hear the apartment door opening behind me and I don’t bother to look over.

Sean and Parker went down there when Danny and Jillian arrived.

I doubt the wolf-gator hybrids have any insight on a problem that’s magical in nature.

“Dante!” Jillian calls out, the urgency in her voice pulling my attention.

I jump to my feet and turn to see her rushing into the apartment, Parker hot on her heels.

“What is it? Have you found something?” I ask.

“We need to get to Fallen Pines. My brother sent me this message last night. I didn’t think it meant anything at the time, but now, with Amanda missing … I have a bad feeling, Dante.” She passes me her phone.

I read the message out loud. “I’m going away for a while. Don’t worry about me. I’m fixing what went wrong.”

Fixing what went wrong?

“How does this …” I start, trailing off when I see Parker’s thunderous expression.

“Remember when he came out here, telling Amanda he changed his mind?” he asks.

Holy fucking hell.

“He rejected her as his mate,” I murmur.

“And she rejected his pathetic excuse for an apology,” Parker snaps. “She doesn’t want him back. There shouldn’t be anything he can do to ‘fix’ that.”

He’s full of rage and I’m starting to feel that same heated emotion coursing through my blood.

He’s right. There shouldn’t be anything Jake can do to win our mate’s heart.

Jake doesn’t deserve another chance with her, and she would never give him one.

The only way he could fix that would be if he did something to turn back time, or to make her forget.

He’d have to have The Fates on his side for the former, but there are hundreds of spells he could have gotten his hands on for the latter.

“There shouldn’t,” I tell Parker. “But if he’s working with a witch or a warlock, there is.”

Jillian nods. “If you bring me to Fallen Pines, I can take you to my house.”

Rachel ends her phone call and I turn to her.

“Is Cheryl coming?”

She nods. “She’s just about to teleport in. We can work on it here while you check that out. Text or call if you need us.”
