Jaketakeshissweettime to wake back up after I spell him to shift back to his human form, and considering he’s already been spelled to tell the truth, and he’s afraid of Parker, who still looks ready to skin him alive, I need to find something else to do that’s not just waiting around soaking up my companion’s emotional states.

“Where could she be?” I ask out loud, not getting why Jake would be here sleeping while he has Amanda held captive somewhere else.

“She’s not here,” Jillian says. “And Jake doesn’t exactly get out much anymore.”

“He’ll tell us where she is when he wakes the fuck up,” Parker growls.

“Yeah, as long as you don’t kill him first,” I mutter.

“We’re talking about other realms, aren’t we?” Jillian asks.

“It seems like it,” I admit.

“So, where could he be going while he’s unconscious?”

“The spirit realms?” It’s the only thing I can think of, but it doesn’t make any sense.

She frowns. “Wouldn’t that make her think she was dead? Why would he do that?”

“I don’t know why this guy would do anything,” Parker snaps. “He rejected Amanda when he was shown she was his true mate. Nothing he does makes any sense.”

Clearly, he’s had enough of waiting, which he demonstrates by slapping Jake across the face again.

“Wake the fuck up, you stupid prick!”

Apparently, Jake isn’t willing to take orders.

Too bad Sean isn’t here to Alpha command him awake.

Jillian sighs. “Step out of the way.”

Parker frowns as he gets out of her path. She sits down on the edge of the bed and strokes the side of her brother’s face, before she pushes his head to the side.

“Better make sure I don’t break the skin,” she mutters as she wraps part of the loose pillowcase around his ear. She leans in and about two seconds later he’s screeching awake and she’s moving back from the bed. “Oh, man up, Jake. I barely touched you.”

She gets to her feet and stands there over him, folding her arms.

He curses as he stares up at her, rubbing his ear. “If you’ve made me into a fucking gator, I’ll kill you.”

“Well, I haven’t, and if you’ve taken Amanda, I’ll kill you. How ‘bout that?” She raises her eyebrows as she stares down at him. “Where is she, Jake? Where did you send her?”

He grits his teeth together, grinds them as he stares back at her, his face reddening deeply.

“Tell the truth now,” I tease him, waiting for the spell to break him.

“Where is Amanda Walker? Where the fuck did you take her?” Parker asks, sounding like he’s ready to rip Jake’s throat out. His wolf is at the surface, I can tell before I see his glowing eyes.

Jake gasps as the magic compels him.

“She’s … she’s sleeping. I didn’t take her out of Wolf Creek.”

“Sleeping?” I ask.

“It’s a spell. I used a lot of them. You’ll never find her.”

He laughs, because he thinks that’s true.
