“Do you really think ripping the guy limb for limb is a good idea while Amanda thinks he’s her mate?”

I stare his wolf down, and the glow fades from his eyes.

“He deserves to be ripped limb from limb now,” he grumbles.

“Regardless, we need to be careful about how we handle this.”

“How do we keep Amanda from seeing us as kidnappers while we sort this stuff out?” Dante asks, making a good point.

Our mate doesn’t remember us, and even if she’s feeling the same way she did when we first met, she’s not going to trust her instincts if we act like we’re trying to trap her.

Parker smiles suddenly, straightening. “We get Jillian to talk to her.”

I nod slowly. “That’s actually a good idea.”

I’m not sure why he seems so pleased about it. I didn’t think he was overly fond of Amanda’s best friend from Fallen Pines.

Dante pulls on a wry smile. “You just think she’ll put Amanda off Jake.”

Parker shrugs. “She’s been a friend for a long time. Amanda will trust her judgement.”

I nod slowly. “I agree. Dante, go ask Rachel to come out here. And stay with Amanda while she’s out here, okay?”

He moves quickly, and I look at Parker.

“It’s going to be a long day,” I tell him, as if it’s not already practically over.

“It already has been,” he admits. “I feel like I’ve had my heart ripped out and stomped on, and now I’m bleeding all over the fucking floor.”

He’s not usually so graphic about how he’s feeling, but I know what happened last night is making everything feel so much worse. I’m just relieved that we found her, and she’s not injured.

“It’s a spell. It’ll wear off, even if we can’t find a way to reverse it.”

He groans. “Did you seriously just tell me we might not find a way to reverse it?”

“Not in so many words.”

I pat him on the back. He does a little more groaning.

Rachel steps out into the hall, raising her eyebrows at Parker before she looks at me. “You summoned me?”

I nod. “Could you bring Jillian out here? And Danny. I think we might need them.”

Chapter fifty-five

Parker

Allthewaitingaroundis driving me crazy. I don’t know how the hell Sean can stay so calm when Amanda’s been hurt. That bastard Jake stole the last nine months from her. He took away every kiss, every smile, every sweet moment we had during that time, and he buried them deep.

Hell, for all I know, he threw them out of her head.

We don’t know that she’ll get them back.

Sean’s acting like he knows she will.

It’s a good act, but that’s all it is.

He’s the Alpha. He has to stay strong for the rest of us. That’s just how a pack works.
