Growling, I pace along the hallway, too agitated to stand still.

When one of the doors open, and a nervous looking shifter peers out, I growl at her instinctively.

She makes a startled noise and closes the door. The lock engages loudly a second later.

Sean sighs. “Don’t give the residents a reason to have us kicked out, okay?”

“I’m not doing it on purpose.” I quit pacing to rock on my heels next to my Alpha.

“Stand over there,” he tells me, pointing to the door across the hall.

“What? Why?” I ask.

“You’re making that floorboard squeak and the sound is making my skin crawl. That’s Rachel’s room across there so we don’t need to worry that you’ll creep the resident out.”

I scowl at him as I move over to the front of the other door.

Rachel re-appears with Jillian and Danny behind Sean.

“How’s she doing?” Jillian asks.

“She doesn’t remember us,” I tell her.

Jillian lets out a sigh. “Great. If I know Amanda, she’ll have a hard time believing you guys are meant for her.”

“Well, maybe she’ll listen to you.”

“I really hope so.”

“I’m guessing I should wait out here?” Danny asks.

Jillian kisses him. “Wait right there, looking all official and cop-like.”

The kiss is a bit much for mixed company, in my opinion, but I can’t say I wouldn’t tongue Amanda the same way if I got the chance. Right now, it feels like that might never happen again.

It’ll fucking kill me if she never remembers, and she never gives us another chance.

“I should go back and help Cheryl,” Rachel says. “You guys have Dante so that’s cool, right?”

Sean nods. “We’ll be back in a while.”

“Great.” She vanishes from sight in a faint shimmer of magic.

Jillian taps on the door with her fist. “Knock-knock!”

Amanda opens the door a few seconds later. “Jillian! You have no idea how glad I am to see you.”

She catches sight of me and frowns as she closes the door.

“I should have kissed her,” I mutter.

“It really didn’t look like she was interested,” Danny blurts.

“I meant before. To wake her up. Maybe then she’d have remembered me.”

“It’s a spell, Park. She’s hasn’t decided you’re not her mate anymore. She just doesn’t know it right now. It’s temporary. I promise.” There he goes again, sounding certain.

I lean against Rachel’s door, staring at Amanda’s, wishing for X-Ray vision.
