Page 98 of Hybrid Forgotten

Something Jake had to save her from.

That fucking asshole put her through something terrible so he could play the hero.

I wish Parker had ripped his skin off bit by bit like he’d threatened to.

It’s a gruesome fate, but he fucking deserves every second of it.

“Humor me,” Jillian says. “Close your eyes and think about me being bitten. What comes next?”

“I don’t know,” Amanda says, as she does what Jillian’s asking.

“I got bitten. Then …” She frowns, before she gasps. “Oh, Goddess. You don’t speak to me after!”

Jillian winces. “Let’s push past that. What’s next?”

“I don’t … Oh, Artemis. I go to the ceremony.”

“Yes, that’s right,” Jillian says.

“I shouldn’t be there, and Jake … he asks the witch to sever our bond. He can’t be with me, because I’m only a hybrid.”

I can feel her heartache as she goes through that moment all over again.

She never should have had to go through it once.

“Then what?” Jillian pushes gently.

“Then … I have to leave. I accept Gemini Academy’s offer.”

She sounds defeated as she opens her eyes.

“I come out here, to Wolf Creek.”

I can’t stand to see those beautiful green eyes so full of pain.

“That’s not where your story ends, Amanda,” Jillian says. “It’s only where it begins.”

Amanda shakes her head. “We were meant to be mated, Jillian. It was fate, and he said no. He told that witch to break our bond. He couldn’t … How could he do that?”

“I’m sorry.” Jillian hugs her closer.

I let go of my mate’s hands and rest my back against the side of the other bed.

Amanda lets her friend comfort her while she cries out her pain.

I feel worse than useless sitting here watching her heart break.

There’s nothing I can do about it.

He put her back to a place where she needs to go through this shit all over again.

All I can do is be ready to help her when she’s ready to rebuild her life.

Chapter fifty-seven

Amanda

ItfeelslikeI’mgoing crazy. I have two separate, detailed versions of what happened that day on the beach. They both start out the same way, but in one I have spells in my purse and I’m able to help Jillian and knock out all the gators. In the other, I’m attacked and if it wasn’t for Jake’s sudden arrival, something terrible would have happened to me.
