I used that time away from him to pull myself together—to stop my nipples from hardening, from my mouth to go dry so my tongue could unstick from the roof of my mouth.

Being that close to him told me how he smelled—like every alpha thing I wanted to be dominated by.

The truth was, I almost kissed him.

I wanted to and if I had, I was pretty sure he’d be pissed.

And I was pretty sure I’d regret nothing.

When it was my turn, I ordered two scoops of chocolate ice-cream in a sugar waffle cone for Daniel. For me, I went for two scoops of grape nut in a regular waffle cone. Selecting a few bottles of water as well, I paid and went back to the car.

I handed him his cone through the passenger side, then hurried around and climbed in.

“I have water as well.” I told him. “I always love a bottle of water after I finish ice-cream.”

“Thanks. It’s the sugar.” He told me, a smile stealing his lips. “What flavour is that?”

“Grape nut.”

“Grape nut?” Daniel arched a brow. “Grapes have nuts?”

That made me laugh. “It’s hard to explain. Want to taste?”

I licked it.

“Sure,” Daniel said.

His eyes drifted to my lips, and I was tempted to ask if he wanted a taste from my lips or lick from my cone.

But I needed to behave.

I wasn’t sure what it was about Daniel Archer that turned me into such a horn-dog Instead of speaking, I extended my dessert to him and watched as he licked it twice. He handed it back.

“What do you think?” I asked.

“Oh, that’s good.”

I giggled. “Let’s go.”

I drove us toward the teacher’s home. It wasn’t safe to do but I navigated the truck with one hand, while eating with the other. I was still eating by the time I pulled up to the house.

Rather than stopping, I went by the house to ensure we weren’t being followed then sat across from the house to take it in for a bit. The front curtains were drawn, the lawn was a little overgrown and the flowers under one bay window, the one we could actually see, were dead.

“It doesn’t seam like anyone’s home.” Daniel leaned toward me to look out my window.

“It doesn’t seem like anyone’s been home for a while.” I agreed.

“Well, unless she likes her place overgrown?”

“Doubt it.” I told him. “A woman who takes time to plant flowers, don’t just sit back and let them die. And not just any flowers—those look like roses—the expensive stuff. Something is very wrong here.”

I glanced behind us as a car entered the road and sped by us. Shifting out of parking, I eased our truck from the curb, went around the block again then parked just a little way from the house.

“What’s the plan now?” Daniel asked.

“Well, now we wait to see if anything stirs.” I answered. “Then we play it by ear.”

After a while, the rustle of plastic caught my attention and I looked over to see Daniel pulling out one of the bottles of water.
