Even as she sat there, dressed like something out of fashion magazine across from this unkempt looking man, I was still having trouble grasping she could be the one trying to hurt Carter and Dillon.

Even if she hated Carter, Dillon was her son and had nothing to do with anything.

I sighed.

With her perfectly styled blond hair, sitting atop her head in a very tidy ponytail, her black designer coat and purse, I felt less than staring at her.

“She’s pretty.” I pointed out.

“I suppose.”

I frowned.

“That’s such amananswer.” I grumbled.

“What do you want me to say?” He asked. “Are you one of those women who go ask their men if a woman is pretty then lose your shit when he answers honestly?”

I hung my head.

That wasn’t a very good position to put anyone in.

If he told the truth he’d be fucked.

If he lied, he’d be fucked.

I never understood women who did that.

But for some reason, thinking of Carter being with Audrey just drew the petty out of me.

Wolf sighed.

“If I thought she was pretty I would have agreed with you.” He offered me a nonchalant shrug. “There’s more toprettythan looks. And right now, I feel like she’s a homicidal maniac. Nothing about that makes me want to tear her clothes off.”

“We don’t know that for sure.” I muttered. “This could all be just one big understanding—maybe she likes sketchy strip clubs in Satan’s ass-crack.”

“Why are you defending her?” Wolf asked. “Isn’t Carter your man? I thought you’d want us to get rid of her so you could have him.”

I blushed and shifted so my gun wouldn’t keep digging into my spine.

“He’s not my man.” I grunted. “And even if he was—I don’t want him like this.”

“Sometimes the journey isn’t clean—or safe. But isn’t it worth the destination?”

“Like I said—he’s not my man.”

Wolf scoffed.

“You keep saying that.” He told me. “Maybe one day you’ll believe it. See, that second man stepping through the door right now?”

“Yeah.”

“He’s the head of The Tide.”

“The gang?”

“Yeah—you guys were right when you—”

The second man walked to the table by the window and grabbed Audrey by the throat.
