“That’s none of our business.” The gang leader changed the subject. “People love who they love and who am I to judge. Just have our money ready.”

He pushed from the booth and stormed out.

“I told you not to piss him off.” Rupert scolded her. “What the actual fuck is wrong with you?”

“His people are incompetent.”

“And you’re broke.” Rupert snapped. “So, here we are. If he finds out you have no money, we’re both dead. And I don’t take risks with my life. I’m helping you out because—”

The waitress gave us our drinks and left again.

“Find the money.” Rupert insisted. “I bought you a little more time—don’t waste it. I’mnotgoing down with you for this.”

When he left her, I could hear the frustration in her breathing.

I wondered if Carter was with me instead of Wolf, would he go to comfort her? Would he want to make everything right for her again. After all, he loved her enough to marry her.

He had to have loved her—I didn’t see a man like Carter getting tied down to a woman unless he had some very strong feelings for her.

In that moment, and as I paid the bill so we could leave, I couldn’t help thinking I was taking Dillon’s mother from him.

If she was to ask to have Carter back, what would I do?

You would do what’s right for Dillon—that’s what.

I felt sick.

“You okay?” Wolf asked as we the air hit me in the face.

“Yeah—why wouldn’t I be?”

“Come on, Seema.” Wolf tossed his hands up.

Before he could speak, the front door opened, and Audrey stepped out in her designer duds and stilettos that probably cost more than my motorcycle.

Wolf shifted his body in the way to block Audrey from seeing me and I knew why he’d done so.

Audrey knew Carter and Dillon were being protected. If she knew that, then she would know what I looked like.

Shit—I should have thought of that before.

After she sped out of the lot, Wolf stepped away and exhaled.

“It’s no secret you have a crush on Carter.” Wolf pointed out. “And from the way he is around you—”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

I stepped away and turned for my cycle.

“How angry was he when you left the house dressed like that?”

Wolf’s question stopped me.

Hanging my head, I tried gathering myself, listening to the large man’s footsteps draw closer and closer.

“Your lack of a response tells me all I need to know.” Wolf spoke, close behind me. “I may not know all there is to know about Carter Finch. But I know men like him. I’mmenlike him. I want my woman only for me. I want her to look the way you look right now when she’s on my arm only. I want every freaky little secret to be shared between the two of us and I will stab a fucker in the throat who tries to get in the way of that. You get me?”

Blushing, I met his eyes.
