We turned to look up at him.

“Damn, he’s big.” I whispered to Myra.

“I know, right?” Myra giggled behind her hand. “And I get to climb him like a tree on a daily basis.”

I blushed but we rose and followed him.

Myra rode with her Wolf, and to keep the element of surprise, I got into the passenger seat with Carter behind the wheel.

We drove in silence since I wasn’t sure what to say to him.

Myra’s words kept floating around inside my head and I tried to gleam some form of clarity from it all.

She’d survived a plane crash to meet the love of her life. And with all of that, she was happy to hold on to him, looked at him as if he was the best man in the world. After all that time, he still hulled her playfully into his lap, spoke about her as if she was the best thingeverand teased her when he thought no one was watching.

Hell, I figured Wolf had no shame and would tease her no matter who was in the room.

I blushed and looked out the window.

“Are you really going into this angry at me?” I asked Carter without looking at him.

“Dillon told me to tell you to be careful.” His voice cracked.

“And what do I get from you before we walk into this?”

He said nothing until we were parked in the area Tex had mapped out for him to use.

“If you get hurt or killed in this, I will kill you.” He added.

I hung my head.

“Even if you don’t want to come back to me,” Carter said. “Ineedyou to come back.”

“Can you kiss me?”

He said nothing.

I turned to meet his gaze. He removed his seatbelt, leaned across the space and kissed my forehead, my nose, both my cheeks and that spot between my eyes.

He allowed his lips to linger, warm and trembling against the flesh there before he sat back.

“I’ll give you the other later.” Carter’s voice cracked.

“You want to reward me. Is that it?”

“Precisely.” He replied. “Put your earpiece in before Tex sends out a search party.”

Leaning across, I kissed his cheek while doing as he suggested.

Once the earpiece was in, I cleared my throat and unclipped my belt.

“Tex.” I called.

“I’m here, little sister.”

As we movedthrough the dark, we realized Selvin hadn’t been alone. Sure, we knew there was someone with him in the vehicle, but we didn’t realize he had other members of The Tide sitting in their own vehicles in the lot.
