“Guys, I was running the plates of the vehicles in the lot through my software,” Tex said. “I need you to watch your six. I found two so far that belongs to members of Tide.”

“Where?” I asked from where I was hunched down, watching Selvin drop another cigarette butt out the window.

“One north side of the lot, red Mitsubishi Lancer.” Tex reported. “And close to the entrance—blue Acura MDX.”

“He wants to make sure that if she gets out of the building and past him,” Wolf said. “She won’t make it out of the lot.”

“Nice friends she’s keeping.” Myra muttered. “Tell me again why we’re saving her?”

“Solnishko.” Wolf’s voice held a soft warning. “Behave.”

Glancing around, I returned my gaze to the SUV with Selvin.

“Okay, Wolf, you and Myra keep an eye on the MDX, its closest to you.” I instructed. “Tex—”

“I think it would be better if I keep an eye on the MDX.” Tex spoke. “It has a computer system I can get into. The Lancer is an older model, that doesn’t have the kind of onboard system for that.”

“Right.” I tilted to the side to check the entrance. “Let’s do this?”

The first job was to make sure even if Selvin wanted to run, he couldn’t.

Carter’s job was to take care of that while I made my way into the building through a side window. Though I didn’t want to leave Carter, I didn’t have a choice.

Things would just go faster if we split up.

Tapping his ass, I left him to do his part and hurried through the dark and to the window. I was able to remove the pain, set it on the ground and hoisted myself through. After letting Tex knew where I was, I took the stairs until I arrived at the third floor before sticking my head, slowly, into the hall.

It was empty but smelled like cat urine that had been sitting in the sun too long.

“It stinks.” I reported.

“Breathe through your mouth.” Wolf suggested.

I tried.

“Nope—now I can taste it.” I groaned but kept going.

It didn’t take me long to get to her door, and while I would usually be nervous, there was a camera at the end of the hall that Tex has control off.

Looking around, I made entrance to the door but bracing my shoulder to it, gripping the knob and twisting roughly.

Hotels weren’t the most secure—especially the ones in really bad neighbourhoods.

Strange, because two streets over, the wealthy ate and partied. They showed up in the summertime in droves to watch overly prized specials showing of movies and I bet none of them knew this hovel was here.

Inside, I closed the door quickly and glanced over to the bed—it was empty, but the shower was running.

“I’m in.” I whispered. “She’s in the shower.”

“Scream if you need back-up—Carter?” Tex checked in.

“Tires are losing air, shoved all I could find in the tailpipe.” Carter replied. “That’s the best I can do. I’m back to the car.”

Knowing he was safe, I took the time to go through the room. It was more to look for weapons she might have hidden. I found two cans of mace and a knife she had in her purse. When I was sure she was helpless, I sat in the old chair by the window and waited.

When she finally made an appearance and saw me, she rushed for her purse.

I held up the two bottles of mace.
