It took a few seconds before Tex gave me another exit point. But that too was a no-go as someone had piled up a whole bunch of junk in front of theemergencyexit.

“What is wrong with these people?” Audrey asked.

I hate to admit it—but I shared her sentiment.

“The only way out now is through the front.” Wolf didn’t sound impressed. “And we know they’ll see us coming.”

“I know.” I replied.

What’s the point of saving this woman when I’ll probably kill her later?

I turned to face her.

“We’re going to have to do this the hard way.” I explained to her. “When we breach the door, stay behind me, keep your head down and follow my instructions. If you put my friends in danger, you won’t have to worry about the Tide, got it?”

“Your bedside manner sucks.”

“That’s why I’m not a doctor.” I growled. “Guys, give me one minute then let’s do this.”

They all responded, and I inhaled deeply and took off up the steps again. I didn’t have to check if Audrey was behind me. Her unsteady footsteps were a constant reminder that this could all end badly.

“We have a swarm heading your way.” Tex announced. “Move it!”

“Got it.” I answered.

At the only door out, I paused, reached for the gun in my thigh-holster and exhaled a cleansing breath.

“Stay here.” I told Audrey.

Not caring if she agreed or not, I slammed my foot into the door close to the knob. It flew open, crashing into the man standing behind it on the other side.

Using my body to press the door into him, crushing him between the door and the wall, I aimed for the man on the other side and took him out with a bullet to the chest.

The second man I hit, fell backward over the railing—screaming until his body connected with the parking lot below.

To my right, other men rushed forward and on my left, Wolf and Carter came to my aid.

The roar of gunfire was a regular in this part of town—but I was sure we had at least fifteen minutes to clear out before the place was swarming with cops.

Easing my body from the from the door, the man behind it sprung out.

Carter punched him in the side of the head, knocking him over the rail to join his friend.

“Carter get her.” I called while easing my body forward to cover him.

“I’m not leaving you.” Carter told me.

“I’ll be fine.” I told him. “Now, go!”

“Goddess—”

“I got her.” Wolf promised. “Go.”

As I fired at the incoming men, I wanted to look back, to assure him, to get some of his strength. But I knew if I took my eyes off what was happening, I may not go home.

Wolf may not go home.

“Myra?” Wolf called. “Let’s go.”
