“That’s not on you.” Levi frowned at me through the mirror. “He was just a sorry excuse of an idiot. It’s just, Jackson is such a sweet guy. I thought being alone with him so soon after we met would be just bad. I’m not used to a man being alone with me and not being inappropriate. But he was caring and kind and smart—Wasp, do I deserve a man like that hitting on me?”

“Was he flirting with you?”

Levi blushed.

“You deserve all the good things, okay?” I leaned over to kiss his shoulder. “All of them and I will fight anyone who tells you otherwise.”

He giggled. “He’s lovely.”

“Good.” I nodded. “Enjoy this because it could lead to something good. Try not to overthink it or let your demons in like I seemed to have done.”

“You and Carter?”

I nodded.

“All he wants to do—and I can see it—all he wants to do is see if things could be good between us.” I motioned with my hands. “There’s no ill-will behind it. But I feel like we’re two very broken people who needs to heal first.”

Levi put down his makeup for a second. “You should take your own advice.”

I scoffed.

“I’m serious.” Levi tapped his powder brush on the outside of the package and waved the brush at me. “You deserve all the good things too. You’ve been through so much.”

“I know. But it’s such a hard decision because there are so many moving parts.”

“Now you have to make a decision.” Levi leaned toward the mirror to look at her eye make-up. “If it’s a hard decision then you shouldn’t stay with them.”

I frowned.

“The main question is this.” Levi turned and crossed his legs. “Are you prepared to be the mother to a teenager and his boyfriend?”

“Yes, but would I make a good mother?”

“This is one of those things that you won’t know the answer to unless you jump in.” Levi replied. “That kid looks up to you. You’ve been there for him through one of the hardest things he’ll ever have to face. And you didn’t have to tell him you had his back—you showed him with your actions. He’ll never forget that.”

I sighed.

“And even if you’re not with his father, he knows that he can always come to you—so, maybe Dillon shouldn’t be the reason for this decision.”

“You know me too well.” I chuckled.

“Now, how do you feel about his father?” Levi questioned. “That’s the real question.”

“I know I’m falling for him.” I admitted out loud. “The sex is amazing—I’ve been avoiding him a little bit, trying not to be in a room alone with him.”

“Why is that?”

“Well—” I blushed. “We had a bit of an argument right before we went out for Audrey. He said we’re going to figure this out—either I leave, or he basically will—um—well, he will—shit.”

“Oh my.” Levi giggled. “I say go for option two.”

“It’s not that easy.” I dragged my chair to be closer to my best friend. “Here are my cards, okay? I want him—every part of him. But I keep seeing my ex in my head, of him leaving me for his ex-wife and I get this pain in my chest.”

“Carter is not that idiot. Have you had this conversation with Carter?”

I shook my head.

“Before you freak out, have that talk with him.” Levi advised me. “Or at least have him tie you to his bed and blow your back out before you ruin this good thing.”
