“Wow—you’ve fallen.” My father spoke up.

“Excuse me?” Carter asked.

I held his arm.

“It would have taken nothing off your life to have pretended you didn’t see me.” I told my father. “Both of you.”

“And miss out on this?” Brady asked. “Selling yourself to the highest bidder didn’t prove us wrong.”

Without thinking, I slapped him hard across the face.

I ensured I put myentireback into it.

My father stepped toward me.

Dillon and Carter eased their bodies in front of me. The look in Carter’s eyes stopped my father who was no doubt going to hit me back.

Because of course—Brady had always been his favourite.

“Are you out of your mind?” Dillon demanded.

“You will not speak to my woman again.” Carter held Dillon’s shoulder and eased him out of the way. “You’ve made it perfectly clear she no longer belongs in your family. I will not warn you again—walk away.”

My father smirked, but to his credit, he stepped back.

“I knew you wouldn’t make anything of yourself.” My father spat. “A failure—I don’t really want you carrying my name.”

When I stepped around Carter to tell my father all the way off, Dillon laughed.

“That’s okay.” The teenager told my father. “She can have mine.”

“Dillon.” My voice cracked. “That’s only something your father—”

“He’s not wrong.” Carter wrapped an arm around my hips and smiled at me. “You don’t need his name anymore, Goddess—”

“Goddess?” My brother asked. “Her?”

Exhaling, I kicked him in the crotch.

As he slumped forward to his knees, Carter laced his fingers with mine and kissed my forehead.

“Come on, Goddess.” He cooed. “Since you’ve been such a good girl tonight, you deserve a treat.”

I giggled.

“A foot massage—what were you thinking?” Carter smirked.

“Aww, seriously, guys!” Dillon groaned. “Leave the dirty talk for later when I’m not in the same room with you, would you?”

I ruffled his hair and laughed.

“Sure, son.” I replied.

Dillon looked up at me, his grey eyes shimmering happily.

“That sounds good.” He took my free hand. “That sounds so good.”

After leaving the fancy party, I talked Carter into stopping at this little Thai place close to our house. It opened late, especially for the drunks heading home. Carter talked the owner into closing early, just for us and I shivered to think how much it cost him.
