“Why?”

A glint appears in her eyes at that and she smiles brightly. “I’m in charge of breakfast. I finally get to cook.”

“That’s great, Firefly,” I tell her.

Declan mouths the word “firefly” in question. I ignore him.

“Lisabell’s house is closer to the hotel so it’s probably better I sleep there tonight,” she explains.

I groan. “And tomorrow?”

She bites her bottom lip. “We were going to have a girls’ night tomorrow.”

“And what will this night entail?” I ask.

“Clubbing?” she says

“Clubbing?”

“Yeah,” Juliette states. “Lisabell loves going to clubs and since it’s kind of her going-away party, I decided to indulge her this once.”

"I’m sure you have room for two more people,” I say before I can stop myself.

Declan’s eyes swing toward me. “Did you just invite me and yourself without asking me? Also, did you just willingly offer to go to a club? I’ve been trying to get you to go with me for years.”

“Shut up, Dec.” I turn back to Juliette, who’s watching me with a smile on her face. “So?”

“You want to go clubbing with us?” she asks and I nod.

There’s no way I’d pass up an opportunity to hang out with Julie in the club scene. Besides, I don’t want to think about her dancing with someone else or letting any other man near her so I’d love to go out with her instead… it she’s ok with it.

“Alright, fine. I’ll tell Lisabell. See you tomorrow.”

“Bye, Firefly.”

She walks out after one last glance and I’m left to deal with Declan.

“Firefly?” he asks with a taunting smirk.

I ignore him, instead choosing to focus on the files in front of me.

“You realize you’re a betraying asshole, right?”

“You’re being dramatic.”

“I’ve asked you a number of times to go with me to a club and you’ve refused. But now that Juliette’s involved, you’re offering to go without any prompting.”

“What do you want from me, Declan?” I ask on a sigh.

“A sorry would be nice.”

“Ok Dec, sorry. Maybe grow some boobs and we can discuss it,” I joke. He rolls his eyes before shifting forward.

“So when did this happen?”

He’s not going to stop until I tell him the full story, so I do and by the time I’m done, Declan is grinning like a fool.

“Shit, you really stepped up, huh? I’m proud of you, Xan. You deserve this.”
