She steps away from me and glances back at me over her shoulder. “We’ll see,” she says, a devious glint in her eyes. “See you later.” She goes to walk away, but I’m too fast as I grab her wrist and pull her to a stop.

“I meant it, Ella. This is the last time. Understood?”

She purses her lips together as if she doesn’t quite believe me but nods.Hell, I don’t know if I believe myself right now.

I release her arm, and she leaves the room without a word.

My fingers are soaked with her arousal, and I suck them clean, groaning at the taste and the throbbing of my cock in my briefs. Before I can wrap my head around what happened, Salvatore knocks on the door again.

With a heavy sigh, I stand and put on my mask. It’s time to go back to business.

But as the day wears on, all the depraved things I want to do with Ella play in my mind like a porno. I want her, and making her come for me on my desk only made me want her more.

All I know is I can’t have her. In three days, she will attend the first pre-auction dinner. And then, in two weeks, her marriage contract will be purchased by another man for a minimum of ten million dollars.

Our wicked desires can never go further. But, in my darkest moments, I can’t help imagine Ella by my side—forever.

ELLA

Iplay with the hem of the Gucci dress Mia bought me, my hands trembling.

Mia stands to the side, watching me. “Are you okay?”

I shake my head, scared about attending this event.

She moves closer. “It’s okay to be scared, Ella,” Mia whispers, placing a hand on my shoulder.

“Is this how you found Killian?”

Her lips purse together. “No, we knew each other at the academy we attended. Our match wasn’t exactly one my father supported.”

I clench my jaw. “Same with Camilla, right?”

Mia nods.

“But I have to be sold? I’m not even aMorrone.”

She gives me a pitying look. “Don’t think of it as being sold. Think of this as an opportunity to find the nicest and hottest guy on offer and snag him.”

I laugh. Mia has a way with words. “Only you could see the positive in being auctioned off.”

Mia shrugs. “Seriously, you can find someone decent. You have some control over this. If you aren’t friendly to buyers that don’t interest you, they’ll be less likely to buy you.”

I consider her suggestion, as she has a point. I hope to find Prince Charming to rescue me from a terrible existence. I can hardly imagine how many men in this line of work treat women as second-class citizens. “Fine. Shall we get this over with?”

“Yeah, I’ll be by your side the entire time.” Her brow furrows. “And Killian is here tonight. You’ll get to meet him.”

I’ve heard so much about her husband but haven’t met him in the few months since I moved here. He’s busy with the Callaghan clan business, for the most part. “Finally. I was starting to question if he exists.”

She shoves me. “Are you suggesting I’m crazy enough to believe I’m married to an imaginary man?”

I smile. “Perhaps.”

We walk with our arms linked down the stairs and into the main hallway, where Remy, Luca, and Leo are all dressed in their finest suits. And another man, who must be Killian.

I swallow hard when Remy notices me, his eyes darkening as they always do. His gaze moves up and down my dress in a predatory way, heating me from the inside out. I hate how confusing my feelings for him are, even more so since his office three days ago. We haven’t spoken since. I wanted him so badly. I wanted him to be the one to take my virginity.
