“Maybe,” Jace mused. “But I think there’s more going on. We should go.”

Surprise hit me. “You want me to go with you? Why don’t you just take Pratt?”

“I thought we were working together,” Jace responded tightly. “And…because Pratt is a Disciple first. Until we know what Rynn is up to, I’d rather keep it to ourselves.”

Neither my dad nor Chris still had any idea that Rynn was the reason we were taken by the Phantoms. They definitely had their suspicions, though. Anything that had happened with Rynn, we’d kept to ourselves, and even though there was a tug of guilt about that, it wasn’t enough for me to come clean to my dad.

“Pratt will tell Chris everything?” I questioned.

He frowned. “Yes. He’s not my friend. He answers to Chris. You trust Tripp with everything?”

“He knows Rynn is the girl from the summer,” I said carefully. “He won’t say anything to Hayes.”

“Must be nice,” Jace muttered under his breath.

“What must be nice?”

His jaw clenched as he stared at me before he blew out a breath and shook his head. “Nothing.”

“You don’t trust Pratt.” My words came out slowly as I pieced together what he was thinking. “Do you not have anyone to talk to? Besides me?”

“Shut the hell up,” he snapped. “Don’t act like you know me. You haven’t for a long fucking time.”

I let it drop. The fight wasn’t worth it. We had bigger issues to deal with if Rynn was planning something. Jace relaxed slightly, sitting at the edge of Tripp’s bed.

“I have a guy I can call for backup,” Jace stated.

“I don’t want anyone from your gang coming with us,” I replied coolly.

He rolled his eyes. “He’s not from Pacific Point, and he owes me a favor. If they’re staying at a hotel, then we need a master key card so we can follow Rynn. Maybe get access to the camera feeds. He’s good with technology. He can help.”

“You trust him?”

“He owes me,” Jace said. “And he’s a decent guy. He won’t fuck us over.”

I didn’t like bringing someone else into our plans, but having someone good with computers could come in handy.

“Fine, call him,” I finally relented. “What city is this hotel in?”

“Sterling. It’s up north—”

“I know where it’s at,” I interrupted, pulling out my phone. “There’s an MC in that town that we’ve done business with. I kept in touch with one of the guys. If Rynn is doing something in their territory, he might know about it.”

“Or it might cause suspicion,” he argued. “If you’ve done business with them, it could get back to Hayes.”

“Reese doesn’t talk to Hayes,” I tossed back, finding his number in my phone. “I dealt with all the business in Sterling.”

“Don’t make it obvious,” he muttered as I put the call on speakerphone.

“Hey,” Reese answered after a couple of rings. “What’s up, man?”

“I’m coming to Sterling this week,” I told him, choosing my words carefully as Jace stared at me. “Thought we could meet up.”

“You got invited to Saturday’s game?”

My stomach flipped when I realized there was no way this was a coincidence. “Yeah, I’ll be there.”

Reese laughed. “I suck at poker, but it should be a good time. Her games always are. You staying at the hotel?”
