Jace straightened up at Reese’s words, and my eyes dropped back to the phone. “Yeah, I’m staying there. I didn’t know that you knew Ry—” I cut myself off, remembering she didn’t use her real name for business. “That you knew Shadow.”

“She used to sell weed to the MC,” Reese explained. “But I haven’t seen her in over a year.”

“How big is the game?” I asked, wondering what Rynn was planning. No way she was hosting something just for the fun of it.

“Not sure,” Reese replied. “Large enough for them to rent out the penthouse.”

“I’ll see you then,” I told him, getting ready to hang up.

“I hear you made peace with the Disciples,” Reese said with a small laugh. “Never thought that day would come.”

My eyes darted to Jace. “Yeah, neither did I.”

“Is it true?” Reese questioned, sounding doubtful. “Because you know how rumors are.”

“It’s true,” I confirmed gruffly. “Right now, peace is beneficial to both of us.”

“I give it a month,” Reese replied in amusement. “Hayes and Chris have never played well together.”

“We’ll see,” I muttered. “Talk to you later.”

I hung up and glanced at Jace. “What’s our excuse going to be if we don’t want to tell them about Rynn? I think they’ll notice if we just disappear for a few days.”

“I already told Chris that I’m following Rynn over break,” Jace answered. “Just to keep an eye on her. He doesn’t need to know the details.”

I nodded in agreement, even though a shot of unease washed through me. If Hayes and Chris found out we were lying, shit was going to go down. But until we found out what Rynn was up to, it would have to work.

“I can’t waitto see that asshole’s face tomorrow night,” Gage muttered as we stared at the screen of the tablet. I watched as the dean of our school accepted his award with an arrogant smile. The crowd clapped politely, and I could see Alicia’s eye roll when she glanced at the camera.

Getting the dean to come here this weekend was a job in itself, and Alicia had helped every step of the way. She set up this whole benefit dinner, making it seem so important that the dean couldn’t miss it. It worked perfectly. He’d checked in earlier today, and from what we’d found out, he’d be staying all weekend. He thought the owner of this hotel was a friend he could trust. It was going to be fun when he found out how wrong he was.

Gage and I were in the room we’d booked, lying on the bed and watching the benefit dinner through the cameras we’d installed a few hours ago. We didn’t want the dean to think anything suspicious was going on, which meant we had to stay out of sight until tomorrow night when we confronted him.

“Once this is over, I want to make sure the penthouse is ready for tomorrow night,” I said, rolling off the mattress to grab another slice of pizza.

Gage sighed. “I don’t know why you planned this poker game. It wasn’t needed.”

“We’ve already been over this,” I tossed back. “I know the MC here. And Kian has done business with them. If he finds out we were here, I need a cover story. I don’t want him or Jace to have any guesses about what we’re doing with the dean.”

Gage frowned at the mention of them. “We should have picked a different hotel.”

“I trust James,” I told him, naming the guy who owned this hotel. “We had to install cameras in the dean’s room and needed a master key to the rooms. This wouldn’t have worked anywhere else.”

“Son of a bitch,” Gage hissed, jumping off the bed.

I swallowed my bite of pizza, my stomach twisting when he snatched up the tablet, staring intently at the screen as I stepped up beside him to see what was wrong. Gage tapped on the screen, changing the camera angle, and I sucked in a breath. Kian and Jace were standing in the hall right outside the room that was holding the benefit dinner.

“How the hell did they know about this?” I breathed out. “No other students except Alicia knew.”

“The dean can’t see them,” Gage grumbled, pulling out his phone. “He won’t stay if he knows the gangs are involved with this hotel.”

“They know I’m here,” I muttered. “It’s the only reason they’d come.”

Gage’s eyes darkened at my words, but he didn’t respond, knowing I was right. He put his phone to his ear.

“James,” he greeted the hotel owner. “You have any security available? There are two guys outside the ballroom that don’t belong here. You think you can get them kicked out of the hotel?” After a minute, he hung up and continued to look at the tablet as he put his phone away before glancing at me. “Apparently, security is busy with something happening in the back of the hotel.”
