“Rynn.” Kian grabbed my arm, spinning me around. “Tell your boss Little Haven isn’t worth it. You should just leave.”

“You’re the ones who should leave,” I snapped. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Neither of them stopped me when I flicked the lock and pulled open the door. Without looking back, I rushed to the stairs, running up two flights before slowing down. I sent a text to the hotel employee, telling him to fix the elevator before heading to the penthouse.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” I mumbled as I climbed the steps. Kian had royally messed up the entire reason I was here. And I had no idea how to fix it.

According to the time,it had only been an hour since we’d gotten stuck in this damn elevator. Longest sixty minutes of my fucking life. We were sitting across from each other, and the silence was making my ears ring. Gage hadn’t said a word other than a few curses about not having his cigarettes. He’d been checking his phone, as if the signal would magically come back.

I shifted, my ass going numb from sitting so long, and climbed to my feet as Gage grew tense while he watched. I leaned against the elevator wall, slipping my hand into my pocket and pulling out the joint I had. It was bent and a bit torn at the end from my fight with Gage, but it was still salvageable. I stuck it between my lips before patting down my pockets, letting out a quiet groan when I realized I’d somehow lost my lighter.

“You can use mine,” Gage drawled. “As long as I get the first hit.”

I snapped my head up to look at him, and my eyes fell on the blue lighter in his hand. I slowly grabbed the joint from my lips, not looking away from him. I didn’t trust him for shit, and my suspicion burned at his offer. He must have sensed my hesitation because he let out a small chuckle.

“If Rynn doesn’t realize I’m in here, then we still have two more hours.” He shrugged. “I need something to relax me before you do something stupid.”

“I do something stupid?” I echoed, unable to stop myself. “Looks like you already did that by getting yourself stuck in here.”

His eyes gleamed dangerously as he stood up. “Don’t fucking start.”

“Here.” I tossed him the joint. “Maybe you should pick up smoking. Might help your anger problems.”

“I don’t have anger problems,” he snapped before he lit the joint.

I scoffed. “Says the asshole who tries to attack me every time we talk.”

“If you keptmygirl’s name out of your mouth, I wouldn’t want to kill you.”

He released the lungful of smoke he’d been holding, and the cloud hovered around him as he blew it out. I waited a few extra seconds, giving the high time to reach his thick fucking skull before I spoke again.

“I won’t stop,” I said simply.

He tapped the joint, causing ash to trickle to the floor, his glare not leaving me. “Stop what?”

“Talking about her. Talking to her. Touching her.” I squared my shoulders, watching rage flash across his face. “She might hate me because of my gang, but she sure as fuck loves when I touch her. Until she tells me otherwise, I’m going to keep doing it.”

I braced myself, waiting for him to charge, but instead, he brought the joint back to his lips, taking a long drag as fury simmered off him, making the small space thick with tension. I tracked his movements, waiting for him to be an asshole and keep my joint.Puff, puff, pass, motherfucker.I should have waited until after he gave it back to me to tell him that.

“You think you’ll ever be more than a quick fuck to her?” he murmured quietly. “You’re a fucking Disciple. Your boss threatened her. You held her for days on his orders. Talk about her all you want, because that’s all you’ll have left once you leave Little Haven. Memories of how fucking good she was. And while you’re thinking about her, I’ll be the one still with her. Believe me, you’re not the only one who has made her scream. I think we fucked on every surface of her dorm last week.”

His little speech had my own anger rising, and I clenched my fists while he took a third hit of my fucking joint. The fact that his words were getting to me annoyed me even more. Iknewthere was no future with Rynn. She detested my gang, and I was pretty sure she couldn’t stand me. But thinking of not ever seeing her again after this year made a weight slam against my chest.

Before either of us could say another word, the elevator suddenly began humming again, and started moving upward. Gage straightened up, pushing off the wall, his eyes going to the screen, watching the numbers go up. My heart pounded when we stopped at the penthouse again, and the doors slowly slid open.

Rynn was standing there, with her hair a mess and a dangerous fire brightening her eyes as she backed up to give us space to step out. She met my gaze for a half second before focusing on Gage. He let my joint fall to the tile floor once he got out of the elevator, and I gritted my teeth when he stubbed it out.Dick.I followed behind him, keeping an eye on Rynn as she crossed her arms when we were all standing in the hall.

“Where were you?” she hissed, her voice laced with anger.

“I got held up,” Gage responded tightly, shooting me a glare like it was my fault he tackled me into the elevator.

Her eyes cut to me. “You’re telling me that Jace and Kian overpowered you?”

Swallowing my annoyance at how she was talking around me, I shot her a grin. “I mean, I think I could beat him in a fight. But that’s not what happened.”

She raised an eyebrow, waiting for one of us to continue. Gage moved to put his arm around her. “Come on, let’s go talk about it.”
