A frown screws up my forehead.

It needs heat or it won’t ever hatch but it doesn’t necessarily need its mother’s heat, especially if she’s unwilling. Telling Kylie I have it covered, I spit fire and it forms a circle around the nest.

There, that should keep it warm.

“That’s better,” Kylie sighs, tilting her head to the side. “It’s adorable, I can’t wait until I get to meet him or her.”

“Just beware that baby dragons bite,” I caution and she pales, making me regret I said anything. “Don’t worry,” I add quickly, “it won’t hurt.”That much...

“Sure hope not,” Kylie murmurs as we get back into the house and walk through the halls, “I’m already crazy tender as it is and...,” she yanks her dress up, “look how swollen my belly is.”

It is bigger, but she’s not wearing anything underneath the dress and my eyes zone in on her naked mound.

“It’s not the only thing that’s swollen,” I rasp, licking my lips and she lets out a gasp, shuddering from excitement.

“Again?” she pants. “We went at it the whole night.”

“I can tell you’re needy again,” I groan and she flushes, darting her eyes. “Don’t...pull your dress down,” I caution when she tries and she whimpers, holding it up so she can stay exposed to me.

I fall to my knees before her, inhaling the potency.

Kylie moans, clasping the back of my head while grinding her hips. I let out a growl, grabbing her waist and sit her down on a console table.

She wriggles, raking her nails down my chest and comes with my thick fingers inside her.

Her beauty heightens whenever she’s in heat and I can’t take my eyes off my mate.

They narrow in on the branding on her breast, right where her heart is. It looks like a much smaller version of the tattoo on my back, only that it shines white instead of black. Triumph fills me and I seize her lips, latching on and she moans.

The connection is different between us now, more intimate and intense. Her eyes open a little in the middle of the kiss and they’re soft, shining with a new light.

Lifting my hands, I cup her breasts in my hands. They’re bigger and more nurturing now and I slide into her with a reckless thrust. She gasps, tensing and digs her teeth into my shoulder before meeting my jabs.

Fuck yes, that’s it.

Before she’s about to erupt, she seeks my eyes, then whispers, “I love you too.”

Epilogue

Kylie-One year later

“Look at what he’s doing now,” I scowl, but inwardly I hide a snicker. Our son Cass is up in a tree, flapping his dragon wings while trying to serve strawberry shortcake to a group of baby birds. His chubby cheeks are flushed, his silvery eyes full of curiosity.

I still remember the day he hatched.

He cracked on a winter morning and his cheeky face quickly popped up, grinning at us mischievously. He already had a patch of black hair on his head and was the size of a human three month old baby, only shrewder and with an amusing attraction to gold.

“I’ll tell him to get down.” Craven shakes his head. “He’s a bad influence on the other kids.”

We’re at a garden birthday party and I have a feeling Craven wants our son to get down, because he wants to leave. He’s still not comfortable, being around so many people but he’s getting there. Can’t say he’s a big fan but he does it for my sake.

And despite his standoffishness there’s no denying he’s popular.

Everyone’s been staring at him since we came here and we’ve been here for hours, but the fascination never seems to seize.

They all want to sit down and have a beer with him, get advice on the economy and where to invest. I should probably tell them it’s pretty difficult to avert his attention away from me.

A waiter, carrying a tray full of spritzes passes by and glances at Craven in apprehension but ignores me as if I’m invisible. I don’t blame him, its pure self-preservation.
