"Nope, ya sure don't," I reiterate, grab her hand, and lead her through the parking area.

We stroll around the square until we're in front of Ted Baker. I pull open the door, declaring, "After you, wifey."

She glares at me. "You're so annoying."

"No, I'm charming. You'll see that," I claim.

She lifts her chin and struts past me, but I catch her trying to stop her smile.

Finally.

About fucking time.

My hard-on hasn't gone down since I saw her at her da's. Before the day ends, I'm going to win her over so I can take what's legally now mine.

I study her ass, then follow her into the store. She beelines toward a rack on the wall with dresses.

A woman with blonde hair, too much makeup, and fake everything steps before us. I've worked with her several times but don't care to remember her name. She eyes Maeve over as if she's not good enough to be in the store, asking, "Can I help ya?"

I step beside Maeve, snapping, "You'll show my wife respect."

The woman's eyes widen. "Oh, Mr. O'Connor. I didn't see you."

"Well, now ya have. And you'll treat my wife with respect," I reiterate.

She glances at Maeve. "She's...she's your wife?"

I slide my arm behind Maeve's back. "Aye."

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to insult her."

"Aye, ya did," I point out, moving Maeve past the saleswoman.

Maeve shakes her head and releases an anxious breath.

"Just ignore her," I tell her, guiding her to another row of dresses and flipping through them. I pull out a black one and hold it out to her. "This will look good on ya."

She glances at it as if she's not sure.

"What's wrong? It's a nice dress," I state.

She shrugs. "I don't know. I don't think I've ever worn anything that nice."

"Then it's time you do," I assert, holding it up to her. Then, I select a couple other dresses in different colors and lead her toward the back of the store.

The woman reappears, asking, "Can I get ya started in a fitting room?"

"Aye. My wife is going to try these dresses on," I state and hand them to her.

She widens her fake smile. "Great, right this way, ma'am."

Maeve glances at me as if she's unsure if she should follow.

I nod toward the dressing room. "Go."

She follows the saleslady and disappears.

I wait and then decide there's no reason to stay outside the room. I move the curtain and step inside the small space.
