Devin's face turns angry. He shakes his head. "You've always been a dumbass."

"Whatever. Can we eat? My wife's hungry," Tynan claims and slides his arm around my shoulders.

I glance at the covered silver platters and plates of food filling the table. "Looks and smells amazing!" I exclaim, wanting to move past this conversation.

Tully nods. "Agreed. Let's eat." He motions to the maid, and she removes more covers, revealing potato soup, steak sandwiches on sourdough bread, chicken and mushroom vol-au-vents, and different salads.

"Wow! Do ya always eat like this?" I blurt out.

Lauren laughs. "Yep."

It takes several minutes for the dishes to circle the table. We eat silently for a few minutes, then Dominick starts to cry.

My heart squeezes just like it did when I took care of him. I coo, "Aw, no need to cry, sweetie. Everything's okay!"

He stops and glances at me, his big green eyes glistening.

"Aw, ya remember me, don't ya?" I question.

"Of course he does. You rescued him, remember?" Devin adds.

"I don't know if I'd say that. It was part of your—"

"Of course ya did," Lauren says, smiling.

I have to admit it's nice she's smiling at me. Once upon a time, I thought she'd never forgive me for ratting her out to Alaina's brother, Caleb.

I didn't want to, but I once again tried to save my da and felt like I had no choice. When I saw a way to help Devin rescue her and Dominick, it was the least I could do.

I hesitate, then ask, "Can I hold him?"

Devin holds him out to me. "Sure ya can."

I hug Dominick and kiss his cheek. Then I sit him on my lap. He grips my finger as I admit, "I missed ya!"

He looks up and smiles. My heart soars again. I hold him closer.

Tynan slides his arm around my waist, grabs my hip, and tugs me over onto his lap.

I cry out, "Whoa. What are ya doing?"

"Aye. Especially with my son on her lap," Lauren reprimands. She rises and takes Dominick away from me, stating, "Sorry. You can hold him when Tynan can keep his hands off ya."

I glance at Tynan and mutter, "Thanks a lot!"

He brushes the hair off my cheek, tucking it behind my ear. "Oh, come on now. You can see Dominick whenever ya want. And don't worry. There's no need to be shy around my family. I know how much ya love sitting on my lap while ya eat."

I gape at him.

"What in God's name are ya talking about?" Alaina blurts out.

Tynan doesn't remove his eyes from me. "Go ahead, princess. Tell them how much ya love sitting on my lap while eating."

One of his brothers groans.

Tully orders, "Jesus, let her off your lap. She obviously doesn't want to be on it."

"Let her? She's not my prisoner. She can get off if she wants, but she loves it here, don't ya, Maeve?" Tynan repeats, giving me the same warning expression as in the bathroom.
