"Engagement ring? We're already married," I remind him.

"Aye, we are, but we did it the wrong way. So we're going to change that," he replies as arrogance floods his sharp features.

Once again, I'm confused. "I'm not following."

He holds up the ring and tosses the box next to us. He grabs my hand and slides it next to the gold band on my finger. He announces, "We're going to have a real wedding. We'll say our vows before all my family and friends, and you'll once again promise to love me forever."

I stare at the diamond, trying to take in everything he's saying, then blurt, "You're ridiculous."

His voice turns stern. "No, I'm not. Wedding's in two weeks, sunshine."

"I don't understand. We're already married, why are ya doing this?"

He steps closer and puts his arm around my waist, tugging me against him. His hot breath hits my ear, and he murmurs, "As I said, we're going to do this right. And if ya want me to take care of your da's debts for the rest of his life, you'll become the perfect bride and wife. Do ya understand me, Maeve?" He pulls away and puts his face right in front of mine, pinning his challenging expression on me.

I stay quiet, glaring at him.

"Do ya not want me to cover your da's debts? Ya know he can't help himself. He's going to get in trouble again one of these days. My guess is it'll be soon," Tynan warns.

I squeeze my eyes shut, not wanting it to be true but knowing Da can't help himself.

"Look at me, princess," Tynan demands.

I slowly force myself to obey.

He continues, "We're going to do this the right way. Ya have a choice, just like ya did before. In fact, I'll even let ya divorce me right now."

I gape at him and then accuse, "You're lying!"

He shakes his head. "No. I'm not. You can walk away from all this."

My chest tightens, and my heart beats faster. I cautiously question, "I can divorce ya?"

"Sure ya can. But if ya do, your da loses my protection."

My gut sinks again. I'm quickly learning there's always a catch with Tynan. I'm still in the same position I was before. Nothing has changed.

He demands, "Decide, Maeve. I'll call my attorney, and we'll get divorced today. Or in two weeks, you're marrying me properly. What's it going to be, princess?"

I stay silent, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of choosing him again.

"I need an answer in three seconds. Three…two…one."

I still don't want to answer him.

He clenches his jaw, scowling. "Okay, you can divorce me." He releases me and turns for the door.

His hand reaches for the doorknob, and I call out, "Wait!"

He turns back, and arrogance fills his expression. I hate it. He knows he has me, and I can do nothing about it but do as he wants. I blurt out, "Ya really are a monster."

His cockiness only grows. He taunts, "I take it you'll be marrying me in two weeks?"

I mutter, "Fine."

"Fine isn't the answer I'm looking for. I need a little bit of excitement."

I glare at him and put my hand on my hip. "Ya really don't have to be such a bastard."
