"Yea, I know, babes. Now, let's go. Otherwise, you're quitting. Are you going to become a quitter?"
His face hardens.
"Time to go," I announce and move toward the elevator.
He groans and follows me. "There's going to be payback for you constantly challenging me, Maeve."
"Oh, I don't expect anything less." I beam, batting my eyelashes again.
He gives me an exasperated look and pushes the button for the ground floor. He swiftly guides me out of the building and back into the car.
My pulse skyrockets as we get closer to the club.
The driver finally pulls up to a curb. I glance out the window in confusion. I ask, "Why are we outside of a brownstone?"
"Because this is the club," Tynan replies.
"It looks like somebody's house. This is a residential area."
"Aye. This is how it works. It's a secret. Now, let's go." He gets out of the car.
I follow him.
He tugs me into his frame and puts his hand on the back of my hair, tilting my head so his face looms over mine.
My heart beats faster. My husband really is the most gorgeous man I've ever laid eyes on. I nervously question, "Why are ya staring at me like that again?"
"We can still leave," he declares.
"No. We're not leaving," I insist.
He shakes his head and looks at the sky.
"Don't be a quitter," I taunt.
He releases a frustrated breath, then guides me upstairs. He knocks on the door, and it slowly opens.
A large man in a suit greets us. "Mr. O'Connor. Mrs. O’Connor."
Tynan nods and leads me into the building.
Everyone seems to know who he is. We get to the coat check, and he takes out his phone. He hands it to a woman, then hesitates, staring at me.
"What?" I ask.
"I can't believe I'm going to say this," he mutters.
I wait.
He orders, "Take off your coat. She'll take it."
My nerves fill me again, but I lift my chin and square my shoulders. I still can't believe I'm doing this, but I am.
I untie my coat.
His gaze drifts over me, heating just like earlier today when I had to try everything on. He helps me get out of the coat and then he hands it to the woman.
She beams. "Have a great night."
